Westbury, New York is a town in Monroe County, New York, United States. The population was 9,554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rochester– Monroe County Metropolitan Area. Westbury Village is a census-designated place within the town boundaries. The first permanent settler in what would become Westbury was Nicholas Eastman in 1788. He and his family built a log cabin on an isolated bend in the Mohawk River. In 1802, John Glover purchased land from Nicholas Eastman and started to develop it as a farming community with two churches and a schoolhouse. In 1824, Jonas Sibley moved to the area and opened what became known as "Sibley's Mills". Sibley's mills were one of the early commercial enterprises in Western New York. In 1830, Daniel Webster bought some land adjacent to Sibley's mills for $2 per acre and began developing it into what would become Webster Hall Stud Farm (later renamed Webster University). One of Webster Hall's first students was Isaac Newton Heaton who attended college there from 1832 until 1837 when he transferred to Cornell University where he earned his Masters degree in mathematics in under three years! In 1836, Phebe Wofford came to America from England with her father and brother-in-law John Jacob Astor Jr.. She married Sedgwick Parsons who had settled near Auburn Hills Michigan Territory before coming westward overland through Canada during the 1840s with his army of immigrants looking for new territory to settle on maps that had been created by President James K Polk after winning election as Ulysses S Grant’s Vice President! Phebe Wofford soon realized that she wanted more than just another frontier farmwife settling near her childhood home; she wanted something more!) When she met Parsons she fellaize him with stories about life back at home among their friends who were “the best educated people” living anywhere! Parsons agreed that they should move back east but decided instead to start their own little town called Westbury on east side of Mohawk River which they named after himself because he donated all of his savings towards its establishment! They not only founded their own village but also developed other smaller businesses such as an flour mill & gristmill along with growing crops such as wheat, corn, potatoes and apples – making them one of the most successful small towns in upstate New York during those times!). With so many businesses thriving thanks to their hard work & dedication – you can imagine how proud they must have felt when they finally received their incorporation from Monroe County 1 year later!
