Westbury is a town in York County, New York, United States. The population was 9,826 at the 2010 census. Westbury is part of the Utica-Rome, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Westbury were Dutch traders and missionaries in 1614. In 1764, the British divided up New York into townships based on land ownership and developed what is now Westbury as one of these. The town was first settled by Germans in 1793 who named it "Wetzlar". In 1818, residents of nearby Ballston Spa petitioned for incorporation as a village under the name "Westbury". On November 3rd of that year, they received incorporation from the Town Board. The Village of Westbury was chartered on December 2nd of that year and became operational on January 1st of 1819. The original church in town was built about 1795 by German settlers atop an ancient hillock known as Mount Pleasant (now Veterans Memorial Park). It served as both their religious center and congregation until 1868 when a new Presbyterian church was erected adjacent to the old one. At this time it also became home to first grade through high school education until 1964 when all those activities were moved to Utica high school which still operates out of that building today! Westbury, New York is a small town in Montgomery County, New York, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of Montgomery and Orange Counties. Westbury is one of twelve towns in Montgomery County. The first settler in what is now Westbury was Nicholas Htanick who arrived in 1786 with his family from Rhode Island. His son John married Mary Ann Van Tassel and they founded a mill and gristmill on the west side of the Susquehanna River about two miles south of present-day Westbury. In 1807, Daniel Pillsbury bought the mill from John Van Tassel for $1,000 and continued to operate it until he sold it to George Washington Ellis in 1827. Ellis renamed it "Westbury Mill". In 1833, Jeptha Weeks purchased the mill from Ellis for $5,000 and operated it until 1870 when he sold it to Isaac Nevin who renamed it "Nevin's Mills". In 1895, Nathan Hale bought Nevin's Mills from Isaac Nevin for $150 million dollars which made him one of the richest men in America at that time. Weeks had started out as a shoemaker by trade but soon became successful enough to build himself a mansion called Mount Vernon on Easton Road just outside Westbury village limits - still standing today as one of only a few remaining mansions built during this era east of Manhattan. When World War I beganniing Walsh banned importation of all food products due to an outbreak of cholera that had erupted across North America; however he changed his mind after seeing how well Americans were taking care of their food supplies and announced plans to open up all markets within three months so that American farmers could sell their products directly to consumers instead Of waiting for shipments through ports Allowing Germany To control much Of What We ate! This caused great upset among some people who believed That Our Country Was Being Cut Off From The rest Of The World By A Men Who Could Not Statedly Care About Us Anyway!. After being quoted as saying "I Believe That We Can Overcome Any Problem If We Take advantage Of All The Resources That Are Around Us" he reopened Markets within 3 Months!
