Firearm clothing has been a part of Westbury, New York since the early 1800s. Ammunition merchants in the town stockpiled firearms for use in local militia and defense against Native American attacks. By 1860, there were over 100 gun stores in town. The first gunfire in Westbury was on November 25, 1854 when a group of men from nearby Utica shot at a Comstock Sale target. The first major fire occurred on May 5, 1858 when five riflemen from the village of Westville opened fire on an Indian party that had trespassed onto their land. In 1863, New York State passed a bill requiring all firearm owners to possess a Valid Firearm License and pay $5 per year in taxes. This law was designed to prevent knife wielding criminals from using firearms to commit robberies or other crimes

Westbury, New York is a small town in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York. It is located on the west side of the Mohawk River, about 17 miles (27 km) northeast of Syracuse and 24 miles (39 km) northwest of Buffalo. The population was 1,801 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in what would become Westbury were two families who moved from Utica, New York in 1817. They named their town after themselves: WESTBURY on the west bank of the Mohawk River. The name stuck and as time passed other settlers added to it until it became what it is today- Westbury with a total population of 1,801 as of 2010. Westbury has been inhabited by both Native Americans and Europeans for over 350 years. In 1681 Major General George Washington led an attack against Algonquian tribes called the Senecaqua Indians at Westbury Lake near present-day North Webster. The soldiers killed many people and took many scalps before being repulsed by Chief Quaker’s warriors under Chief Tecumseh. At that time there were no permanent settlements in Upstate New York outside of Albany; so Washington returned home to Manhattan without stopping at Westbury lake or taking any prisoners/scalps! In 1784 Revolutionary War General Sullivan captured Westchester County from King George III’s military forces during his successful Raid on Kingston Castle; this largely ended British control over upstate New York north of Niagara Falls which had been under French occupation since 1689! This event helped secure American independence and led to increased development around Buffalo and Syracuse due to new trade routes opened up by America’s victory! After Confederation formed in 1791 all Upper Canada including Ontario fell within newly created United States but parts south including much present day western NY remained subject to Great Britain – this included most notably eastern NY where numerous settlements had been established such as Pittstown (now Schenectady), East Aurora, Auburn, White Plains etc! In 1814 when Buffalo was founded as a frontier city it was still part of Great Britan although very little occurred east of Niagara Falls other than minor trade between traders operating outposts along Canadian border crossings!! It wasn’t until after Indian Removal Act signed into law by President James K Polk in 1830 that all Native Americans living eastward beyond those protected areas were forced onto reservations!!! land grants were given out following treaties made with various nations governing this area……….. basically these lands now form part of Ontario & Quebec !! So while our namesake town may have started off humble beginnings Settlers began building homes & businesses hereabouts starting with one family owning & running a ferry service across the Mohawk River back then infamously known as “The Old Ferry Company” !! The area now includes parts of both towns and villages and formed part of Kings County until 1850, when it became a part of Queens. As the population grew, so did agricultural production and by 1851 there were a total of 6 farms producing 1,500 head of cattle, 500 acres (200 hectares) of tobacco, 100 acres (40 hectares) of potatoes, 10 acres (4 hectares) each for apple orchards and grapes, 20 hogsheads/acre (10 ha) for corn etc., all within one mile (1 km) radius of each other. In 1868 the village that would later be called Westbury was dissolved and its residents transferred to nearby Borough Park as part as part of an effort to reduce overcrowding on Long Island's numerous small towns. At this time there were only around 1,000 people living in these villages combined. Since then Westbury has seen significant growth with over 8 million tourists visiting its attractions annually! From its beginnings as an agricultural community to becoming a popular tourist destination due to its historical landmarks such as Grasmere Manor which dates back to 1654; it has undergone many changes but retains much about its identity including a focus on arts and culture!
