Westbury, New York is a small town in upstate New York. It is located on the eastern border of the town of Greenburgh and the village of White Plains. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Westbury first settlement began in 1792 when Major General James Wilkinson founded Westbury on a tract of land that he had purchased from the Mohawk tribe. The town was named for General William Westmoreland, who fought in the American Revolution and later served as United States Ambassador to Great Britain. In 1810, President James K. Polk awarded Colonel Elijah Ford with a grant of 640 acres (2 km²) in what is now Westbury Village for his part in developing Ford's grocery store into an important center for local trade and commerce. The village grew rapidly during the 19th century, thanks to its location close to major highways and railroads; its convenient location allowed it to become one of the most heavily populated areas in Upstate New York; and its strategic location within easy reach of both Albany and Syracuse made it an ideal place to settle agricultural subdivisions; by 1920, Westbury had over 2,000 houses built on lands that had been donated or leasehold from some 400 families. During World War II, much activity took place near or inside Fort Orange as troops were used in various campaigns throughout North America: military training exercises were conducted at Fort Niagara; airfields were built at Jamestown Air Force Base and Cornwallis Air Force Base; warships were moored at Kings Bay Naval Station; artillery ranges were established at Johnstown Arsenal and Cold Spring Harbor Arsenal;; factories making munitions were set up at Army Ammunition Plant No.(B); shipyards erected munitions ships such as USS "Montgomery" (DD-713) ; shipping companies such as Dredge Line Company operated pleasure boats called Sunnies.; farms produced hay, applesauce, potatoes, cabbage etc.; service stations sold gasoline and other fuels., ice cream was popular among soldiers stationed around campgrounds,,and specialties like dog food became available only through mail order from farmers living outside the main city limits

Additionally, Park Avenue served as an important transportation artery during this time – local farmers could bring their goods all the way to Albany without having to go through New York City! Over time, other settlements popped up around Park Avenue – these included Strawberry (founded in 1828), Syosset (founded in 1836), Appleton (established in 1855), Pine Bush (established in 1865), Easton (founded in 1877) – each of which contributed something different to Westbury’s makeup. In addition, various factories started up throughout Park Avenue during this time: Garment Workers Warehouse at 274 Main Street produced clothing for American soldiers during World War I; Andrew Wirtz Paper Company manufactured paper products such as books and envelopes; while Fordham University established itself as one of New York State’s leading schools by creating several buildings onPark Ave., including its now-famous Stonewall Inn restaurant/bar complex! Despite all of these contributions from various individuals and organizations over time – especially during periods of economic prosperity or growth – little changed materially about Westbury until after World War II endedandemocratization efforts here ensued .
