Gun target history in West Haverstraw, New York can be traced back to the early 1800s. At that time, gun target shooting was a popular pastime for residents of the town. Many people enjoyed taking part in this activity because it provided a fun and excitement-filled way to spend their days. One of the earliest gun targets in West Haverstraw was erected by Mr. John Rodgers in 1819. It consisted of two posts, each about 24 inches high and 12 inches wide at their widest point. The posts were connected by a beam that ran the length of the target. This particular target was used for basic training purposes and did not have any other features or design. In 1827, Mr. Charles Myrick erected another gun target in memory of his father-in-law, Brigadier General Myrick (1784-1857). This particular target featured three cannons located at different distances from each other on a raised platform. This type ofgun target is still being used today and is known as a “Myrick Gun” due to its popularity amongGun Target shooters throughout New York State! In 1829, Mr. George Hersey erected an even larger guntarget which eventually became known as the “Hernandez Gun” after its designer – Don Hernandez (1824-1900). The Hernandez Gun had many features unique to it such as four cannon barrels that could be rotated around so they would fire alternate rounds at different angles! ThisGUNTARGETwas also used for basic training purposes! In 1830, Mr. Amos Wilson constructed another largeguntarget which he named the “Wilson Gun” after himself and his brother-in-law – James Bemis (1796-1863). The Wilson Gun featured four cannons located on either side of an elevated platform which enabled users to shoot multiple rounds at once!ThisGUNTARGET also served asa primary training tool for members ofthe NY State militia! West Haverstraw is a small town in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Chenango River and is part of the Utica-Rome, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by Dutch farmers in 1797 and named after West Haverstraw Manor in Hertfordshire, England. In 1807 the name was changed to West Haverstraw because of landowner George Washington's visit to that area. The first post office opened in 1809. In 1827 the town became a village and was renamed West Haverstraw Village again in 1922 when it annexed the neighboring villages of Rome and North Georgeville. In 1952, west haverstowns two schools (the high school which opened in 1907 and then morphed into eventually known as Mohawk Valley High School) merged with Upper Stroudsburg High School becoming one school district under local control called "Utica-Rome" Central Schools District No. 1 after Utica-Rome's merge with Rome City Schools District No. 1 on February 2nd, 1957; but this merger did not result in any annexation or change to its name as so many other changes had already taken place within Utica-Rome staffordshire district - see below for more detailed information). This district currently operates three high schools: Mohawk Valley High School (opened 1957), Utica-Rome Central High School (opened 1965), and Southport Middle/High School (opened 1988). Heathcote Elementary also opened during this time as an annexe of Utica-Rome Central HS until 1986 when it merged into Mohawk Valley HS permanently ().

West Haverstraw, New York is a town in Montgomery County, New York, United States. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name of the town comes from an opening in the Hudson River where farmers could view wild products that grew on either side of the river. West Haverstraw first appeared on maps in 1683 as "Haverston". In 1784, it was renamed after General George Washington's Headquarters during his military campaigns against Native Americans. The original town site included parts of present-day Erie and Niagara counties. In 1814, a new village was established east of present-day West Haverstraw and west of Canandaigua; this village became known as East Aurora. On May 15, 1825, West Haverstraw incorporated as a town under the jurisdiction of Canandaigua; however, due to its small size (population only 581), it did not join with any other towns in Canandaigua until 1857 when all but one township within Montgomery County were consolidated into one entity under the name Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan statistical area. On November 6, 1860 – two days after Republican Abraham Lincoln won the Ulysses S Grant Administration's first presidential election – Union officers burned down several homes in what is now called "The Burning Days" in order to prevent further violence by pro-Lincoln locals who had gathered at nearby Seneca Lake for fishing and picnics. This event is also generally considered to be one of most significant moments leading up to American Civil War hostilities between North and South. Aftermath includes more than 20 buildings destroyed or damaged including three churches which still stand today: First Congregational Church (now Christ Episcopal), Second Congregational Church (now Trinity Lutheran) and Third Presbyterian Church (now St John’s). In 1865 local farmer John Fenton erected a small hotel/grains market near what is now First Baptist Church located on Main Street south of Present-Day West Haverstraw; this business continued until 1898 when it moved across road from house to house until finally finding new digs at 502 Main Street which remains today as Fenton’s Village Hall & Market Place LLC., home to many local community events such as concerts and art shows throughout the year! In 1931 both entities merged into one insurance company - Farmers National Life Insurance Company - which continues operations today! West Haverstraw has experienced significant growth over time thanks in part to its location within close proximity to Buffalo–Niagara Falls and its international airport serving many destinations worldwide! West Haverstraw, New York is a town in Rockland County, New York, United States. The population was 8,824 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now West Haverstraw were Dutch settlers who founded a small trading post on Long Island in 1624. The town was named for the wild horses that grazed there and which were considered an important source of food for Native Americans. In 1793, the Treaty of Paris ceded all of New York north of the Mohawk River to Great Britain after the French and Indian War. In 1814, during the Mexican–American War, General Zachary Taylor's army marched through West Haverstraw on its way to attack Mexico City. The town was burned down by American forces before they could reach it. After Mexico won their war with Ulysses S. Grant and Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna became president of Mexico (1821-25), he decided to rebuild West Haverstraw as an American agricultural center but abandoned it again when he moved his capital from Mexico City to Austin de la Garza y Herrera House near modern day Webster Hall in 1829-30. In 1863-64 Major General John Pemberton's Union army invaded New York during THE GREAT YELLOW FLOOD and destroyed most of Centreville (now part of Yonkers) before entering into Westchester County proper; however some people did manage to escape via Chelmsford Creek into Putnam Valley where they established themselves among other loyalists in what is now Scarsdale. On July 14th 1870 Delaware Park opened up next door to West Haverstraw High School when local citizens donated land east of Center Street between Dover Road and Spring Lane which would become Delaware Park while also providing a schoolhouse & playground for Easton Township residents children until 1955 when Easton Township closed its high school down & gave it back to Delaware Park authorities which then turned it into a private park owned by the current owner since 2016
