Watertown is a town in New York State, United States. The population was 21,823 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the five towns in Nassau County and is located on Long Island Sound. Watertowns rich history goes back to its founding in 1764 when colonists from Connecticut arrived here on Long Island to trade with Native Americans. As the town grew, it developed an efficient infrastructure that continues to be useful today: water supplied by underground aquifers, a library and many public services are provided by local governments including police and fire departments. The first settler in what would become Watertown was Nicholas Higginson who came here in 1764 as part of a small group of colonists coming from Connecticut. He founded a farm which he named Higginson's Harbor after his friend Nicholas Higgs who had come over earlier that year as part of the same group. Over time, other settlers followed suit and soon there were several farms dotting the area around what would become Watertown. In 1814, John Atherton bought land here from Nicholas Higginson and began developing it into what is now known as Atherton Heights. By 1830, Atherton had built several buildings which still stand including the current courthouse (now known as Battery Park City). In 1827-28, members of the Dutch Reformed Church built their first church here which served both locals and travelers passing through on their way to or from Kingston across Long Island Sound. The first school was established in 1838; students from nearby villages walked or took horseback rides to attend classes at Watertown's only schoolhouse until1854 when a new building was constructed for this purpose; eventually all schools within town became private schools due to financial reasons during the Civil War years when public schooling was suspended statewide because of funding shortages caused by wartime concerns. During World War II many residents worked inside military factories located throughout Nassau County while others managed farms or businesses outside of town while still others used their skills at home making munitions or engineering equipment for war purposes such as tanks and planes etc.. After Pearl Harbor Attack on December 7th 1941 many people chose not to return home; however those who did return quickly began rebuilding everything they’d lost – even going so far as rebuilding entire neighborhoods! Some residents decided that instead of returning home they should stay put and start anew but later that decade many permanent homes were actually erected near downtownWatertown just north of routes 9A & 9B now called Battery Park City proper! After nearly 60 years since its original establishment waterloo Municipal Utility District (WUED) transferred full responsibility for all municipal services within city limits - essentially turning it into one big municipally run city! By 1870, water wheels were powering local mills which created some employment opportunities for local citizens as well as providing power for factories throughout the town center itself; however, by 1915 all but one such mill had gone out of business due to technological advances in motorized transportation which made shipping goods long distances much more efficient than ever before! Even though Machine Age production methods had taken hold everywhere else by this point too, mill owners decided they could still make money off new high-speed transportation so they closed their doors forever! Watertown is a town in the U.S. state of New York, located on the southern border of Westchester County. The population was 382 at the 2010 census, down from 486 at the 2000 census. Watertown is part of the New York City metropolitan area and is included in the New York–Newark–Jersey City (NYC) Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as a small settlement on Long Island Sound, near present-day Yonkers, before being moved to its current location on Mohawk Avenue in 1777 by British settlers seeking to protect their trade with Native Americans in what would become New York State. The first settler in Watertown was John Perrow, who arrived in 1664 and built his house near present-day Park Street and Broadway. He was followed by his brother Nicholas Perrow, Sr., who settled around Kingsbridge Road and Main Street about 1675. In 1707, David Bogart founded Bogart's Mills on what is now Watertown Common; this mill later became known as Bogart's Falls due to its proximity to Falls Lake. In 1801, two brothers named Jameson bought land northwest of downtown Watertown from William Amboy for $1 million dollars; they renamed it Amboy Township after themselves. By 1830, much of what remains today of Amboy Township had been incorporated into Watertown Borough; however, most of these boundaries still remain traceable today thanks to maps and other records dating back to that time period! In 1827, Samuel Morse established a post office at Watertown after sending an experimental Morse code letter from a boat moored there; this led to further development within the town due to increased communication needs during the 19th century! In 1837–38, General Philip Kearny visited Albany while campaigning against Mexico along Interstate 95; upon his return he ordered all bridges across I-95 closed so that military supplies could be delivered directly into Mexican hands without going through Albany! This event helped spur development within Watertown towards becoming an important transportation hub during this time period! 3/15/2006: On March 15th 2006 water town did something no one has ever done before.....they gave out free ice cream!!
