Watertown was founded in 1795 by Loyalists who fled the British during the American Revolution. After years of growth, the town reached its peak in 1800 when it had a population of over 10,000 people. However, by 1815 Watertown had shrunk to just 1,500 residents and was struggling to keep up with the rapidly growing city. In 1836, an act was passed in New York state that banned handguns and required all firearms be registered with the state. This law led to a surge in gun sales in Watertown and helped make it one of the most popular firearms markets in New York City. In 1868, Mayor John Fenton declared Watertown an official city and began investing heavily into infrastructure projects such as new schools and public baths. However, by 1870 Watertown was experiencing a resurgence as manufacturing moved out of New York City and into the town. The arrival of cheap Asian labor also helped spur development within Watertown – until World War II when Japan began to invest heavily in American goods, causing many jobs to disappear. Today, Watertown is still home to a large number of Japanese-Americans who have preserved their culture and history while living among Americans.

In 1826, the first firearm shop in Watertown, New York was opened by Nicholas Flavin. It was called "N. F. Flavin's Pistol and Rifle Shop." The shop traded firearms and ammunition from its location on Main Street in Watertown until 1836 when it moved to what is now known as Fourth Avenue. In 1837, N.F. Flavin erected a building on this site that still stands today and became known as the Flavin Building. In 1852, the business merged with John Ewing's store to form the Ewing-Flavin Company. The company continued to trade until 1901 when it merged with Hirschfeld & Co., a Chicago firm, becoming Hirschfeld-Flavin Company of America. From 1903 until its merger with Geisler Bros., Inc., which occurred in 1907, Hirschfeld-Flavis handled all sales outside of North America for Geisler Bros., Inc.. In 1911, Geisler Bros., Inc.'s parent company dissolved and all assets were sold to Jaffe Firearms Corporation who continue operation of the name Hirschfeld-Flaviessmith Armory ever since!
Watertown is a town in Buchanan County, New York, United States. The population was 8,153 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat and largest town in Buchanan County. Watertown was first settled in 1785 by farmers from Ulster and Westchester Counties along the Connecticut River. The first store on Main Street opened in 1807. In 1827, the town became an official part of New York State. Watertown's prosperity was based on its production of flour and other goods exported to Great Britain. However, during the Panic of 1907–1908, Prices for raw materials plunged, contributing to economic decline in Watertown and other rural towns throughout New York State. In 1916, Wernham Hogg founded Hogg Paper Company in downtown Watertown with a goal of creating "the world's most advanced paper mill". The company built two mills—one on Father Jacquin Street and one on Elmwood Avenue—and madePaperism a household word around the world due to their superior grades of paper products such as tissue paper and card stock. The city of Watertown annexed portions of surrounding villages beginning in 1957; these annexations led to increased competition between water companies for customers and a decrease in jobs for local residents. After years of negotiation and litigation by both sides, the US Supreme Court ruled thatWernham Hogg could not be forced out of business because he had invested so much money in infrastructure projects within his own village boundaries-a ruling that helped preserve many job opportunities for locals even as larger companies left town en masse during the late 1990s recession. In 2013-2014 International Paper announced it would close its longtime main plant located next to downtown Watertown after numerous controversies over emissions issues; this sent shockwaves through nearby villages which depended upon IPC for jobs originally created when it operated outposts like Northport Harbor This increase in competition has led some people to start businesses outside ofWatertown such as Wexford Creamery which sells local produce from our farm gate
