In 1814, when the Erie Canal was completed, Valley Stream became an important transportation center because it connected Buffalo and New York City. Valley Stream is a town in Kings County, New York, United States. The population was 6,914 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the five towns in Kings County and is surrounded by the towns of West Nyack, East Nyack, and Hempstead on three sides and by villages of Islip and Ronkonkoma on one side. The Town of Valley Stream was first settled near what is now Valley Stream Park in 1795. The town was named for two small streams that flow through it: Westchester Creek (now North Country Creek) and Eastchester Creek. Valley Stream was originally part of Dutchess County before it became part of Kings County in 1802. On February 14, 1857, the western border of Kings County was created when it separated from Dutchess to form this new county. In 1872, parts of Hillsdale (now Ronkonkoma) were included in Valley Stream as well. In 1916 Vallely Road was constructed between Ronkonkoma and Islip to carry goods across these localities into New York City through a narrow neck of land between those two communities which formed the eastern border of Queens Borough at that time. In 1957 an expressway called Interstates 95th Street and 78th Avenue connected Valley Stream with Farmingdale to the south while Ridge Road served as a primary arterial route connecting Valley Stream with Ronkonkoma to the north-northwest. In 1994 construction began on I-95/78N which would have linked all four villages together within their current boundaries; however this project failed to come to fruition due to budget overruns prior to its scheduled completion date in 2000). Today only valley stream village remains without an interstate connection - this being due mostly to zoning regulations which prohibit high-traffic areas within town limits along with concerns about potential flooding if larger highways were ever built within or adjacent thereto (elevated tracks or expressways could potentially enable such traffic).

Valley Stream, New York is a town in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 1,604 at the 2010 census. Valley Stream is located on the border of Monroe and Ulster Counties. It is part of the Rome, NY Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in what is now Valley Stream was founded by Nicholas de Montresor and his family in 1664. They were among the earliest Europeans to settle in this area. The first settler to build a house there was Elias Nordenfelt who built a log cabin on Water Street in 1787. In 1814, Isaac Morse moved from Westchester County and bought land here for $1,000 from John Duryea. He named it Morse Valley after his friend and mentor Nathaniel Morse who had helped him finance his early business ventures. In 1825, Valentine Pickering arrived from Nova Scotia with his family and began farming here. He became one of the most successful farmers in this area and developed a large estate that included much of what today constitutes Valley Stream Township (although some areas were sold off to other settlers). His son Valentine Pickering Jr., also an influential man in ValleyStream history, donated many acres of land to township development purposes during the late 19th century as part of an effort to increase its size and provide more opportunities for local families to succeed together. Valley Stream post office opened in 1827; it remained open until 1959 when it merged into Rochester Post Office under larger USPS umbrella effective January 1st 1959
Valley Stream is a tributary of the Susquehanna River in New York. It was formed by the confluence of two small streams, Valley Stream and North Branch Valley Stream. The valley was first settled by Native Americans, who used it for hunting and fishing. In 1683, English colonists arrived in what is now New York City, and began to settle the valley. The Susquehanna River was soon threatened by lumbering industries, and in 1812, President James K. Polk ordered a survey of the river's course. This led to the creation of Valleystream National Recreation Area, which includes much of present-day New York City.
