Valley Stream is located in the Town of Valley Stream, within New York's Capital District. The town was formed on May 12, 1795 from parts of the villages of West Nyack and Eastchester. Valley Stream's name comes from the valley that flows through it. The river ran through the town until it was diverted by a dam built by Dutch interests in 1847. The first gun targets were erected at Valley Stream in 1795, during the French and Indian War. The guns were mounted on an artificial bluff overlooking the river and could easily be aimed at enemy troops who stood below. From this location, artillerymen could fire volleys of muskets at any target they chose. Over time, more targets were erected around the town, including a battery of four cannons in 1802 which served as the nucleus for today's Gunnery School & Museum complex. In addition to its military importance, Valley Stream also played an important role in early American history. In 1776, Hessian forces invaded America and captured Fort Stanwix near modern-day Albany; however, British General John Burgoyne successfully defended the fort and regained possession of America two weeks later. This victory helped lead to Britain's withdrawal from North America proper and paved way for independence. Gunnery School & Museum complexwas completed in 1971 following years of construction work which began in 1960s when then-Mayor James Joffe dedicated a park adjacent to Fort Stanwix for military veterans and their families with access to exhibits on firearms history as well as instruction on how to use them safely both recreationally and militarily.. Today ValleStream boasts one of New York State’s most comprehensive collections of firearms artifacts dating back over 160 years!

Valley Stream is a town in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 2,941 at the 2010 census. Valley Stream is located on the north side of the Hudson River. The town was first settled by Germans in 1788. It became a part of New York State in 1825. At the time of the American Revolution, Valley Stream was one of several towns loyal to Great Britain and had no representation in the new state government. When New York became an independent country, Valley Stream retained its allegiance to England and voted for King George III to be its first president. In 1795, when Albany passed a resolution protesting America's independence, ValleyStream joined with other towns along the river east of Albany in forming a provincial congress which decided to remain part of America rather than become British subjects again. After America's victory over France at Saratoga Ridge and France's withdrawal from North America, Valley stream ratified this decision and helped build up American support for independence by hosting anti-British demonstrations throughout central New York (including one that took place outside Vallelstream). After independence was won, valley stream voted to join the United States as one of its first states on December 14th, 1791 becomingthe 9th province west of Lake Ontario under President George Washington.
