Valley Stream is a town in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 6,815 at the 2010 census. The community is located on the southern border of Valley Stream State Park. Ammunition production began shortly after the grant and continued until 1824 when it was contracted out to different companies by Governor John Jay as part of his efforts to modernize New York's gun laws. In 1828, cannonballs were fired off from nearby White Sands Island during a military exercise in response to an American invasion scare that prompted President James K. Polk to proclaim martial law across much of America. In 1829–30, skirmishes between Ulysses S. Grant's forces and Native Americans along the Genesee River led Congress to pass the Indian Appropriations Act which allotted $5 million for "the peaceful extinction" of Native Americans living east of the Mississippi River including Valley Stream Township which submitted an application for allottee status on December 26, 1830 (). The township reached full organization on February 14th, 1833 with a vote by voters following passage thereof by both house of Congress (). Thereafter it functioned as one unit with various committees assigned specific duties such as infrastructure development (roads/freeways), social welfare (homes/schools), defense (guns/ammunition) and agricultural production (). Ammunition became an increasingly important factor in township life with residents becoming skilled artisans at making cartridges from rimfire rounds (), shot putters () and rifle balls ().

Valley Stream is a town in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Valley Stream is part of the Rochester– Yonkers Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Valley Stream taken from two locations: the Canandaigua River and the Valleys between it and Rome (now called Rome-on-the-Hudson), both in what are now Montgomery and Orange counties. The stream itself was first named by Captain John Smith who discovered it on his voyage up the Hudson River in 1609. He reported that he had found a large valley with running water near where modern Valley Stream is today. In 1764, Colonel George Clinton founded nearby Geneva on another branch of the Mohawk River which became known as Valley Forge after General Washington's army camped there during his winter campaign in 1764-65. In 1814, when Albany was created as a separate city, Valley Stream became part of that city limits; however, it continued to be considered an unincorporated community untilratch made by Supervisor Abram Sanger in 1922 when he petitioned for village status for all but one hamlet within its boundaries - Westchester Avenue - which finally became an incorporated village on July 15th of that year. In 1819, Drury Lane Railroad came into operation through central Valley Stream and established passenger service to Albany from here including stops at Cohoes Falls and Lake Placid; however freight service continued unimpeded until 1933 when the line was abandoned due to competition from the Erie Canal expansion project coming through central New York State.; However, Amtrak's Northeast Corridor continues to run between Buffalo and New York City via stations in Valhalla and Schenectady over parts of this route past Glens Falls Junction where Amtrak splits away from NJ Transit., bus service also operates along NY State Routes 585 (via Empire Blvd) & 586 (via CR 6) serving most areas within town limits while Pace provides express bus service exclusively linking town center with outlying villages or towns east & west of town as well as services inside & outside of town gates only..
