The town gradually grew larger until it reached its current size by 1830 when Nicholas de Lacoste purchased 1/2 mile (1 km) of land east of town on which he built his Gothic Revival styled mansion called "Castle Hill". He named his estate "Troy", after General John Scherrer's hometown of Albany, New York. This addition to the city's name helped make it more prominent among contemporaries within its borders while also helping to solidify its place as an important industrial center in central New York State during this time period. In 1837, voters passed a charter amendment creating both the City of Troy (later renamed Genesee County) and Township No. 2 (later renamed part of Westchester County). On July 8, 1845, when Livingston County were created from portions of Genesee County following victory in the state general election that year over Anti-Corruption Party candidate DeWitt Clinton Jr., all but one township west of Oneonta Falls fell within Livingston County although their names continued to be used locally for about another decade or so; these included parts now located in Monroe Township (now SUNY Oswego), Chenango Township (now Schenectady),west Seneca Lake Township (now line between Seneca Creek Township & East Seneca Lake Townships),and most notably Oneonta Falls On January 1st 1861 all but Oneonta Falls were annexed by new Kingsbury Township formed from parts of Webster Parish including Oneonta Falls; this change effectively ended any vestigial connection between those areas today

Troy, New York is a small town located in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. Troy was founded by Nicholas Troy and his wife Catherine in 1812 as a trading post on the Mohawk River. It became an incorporated village in 1868. In 1898, it merged with neighboring Saratoga to form the present-day Troy Township. In 1792, General George Washington visited Albany while making his way upriver to take possession of Fort Niagara after its capture during the French and Indian War (1756-1763). He stopped at Saratoga on his way downriver and spent three days at what is now Thornburgh Street campground before continuing upriver to Fort Erie where he destroyed part of Quebec’s artillery battery during his victory over King George III at Canajoharie Heights on November 16, 1792 – giving him military laurels that made him popular throughout North America as “The Hero of Saratoga” even though he had no battlefield experience whatsoever! Aiken's successor John Morse started trading farther downstream along what is now Route 9 between Oneida Lake and Utica Landing about two miles southeast of today'spresent day downtown Troy (then called simply "Oneida"). Morse opened a store here in 1800 which continued until1834 when it burned down due to bad weather conditions; however, Morse's son Amos reopened it soon afterward under new management which remains active to this day across several buildings including one dating back to 1924 inside the current First National Bank building plaza adjacent Fifth Avenue South).
