After years of discussion among residents about what should be done with Snyder's land,, a committee finally recommended that it be donated to charity instead while also recommending that it be developed into a downtown commercial area During World War II, Troy played host to numerous Army Air Forces training camps including those used for Operation Overlord (D-Day). In 1945, following Japan's surrender, American troops burned down all but three buildings within sight of Japanese forces in order symbolically "roid up" their enemy before withdrawing from occupied Japan . After World War II ended there was significant growth in industry with several large companies locating here such as IBM and Carrier Corporation .
