The economy of Troy is based primarily on manufacturing and agriculture including soybean farming, livestock production, dairy cattle herding, breadmaking and other agricultural products downstream from Pittsburgh while also employing many local residents in various positions within the community government including city councilor/mayor/school board member etc.. Troy's rich history begins with its founding by German settlers who were looking for land to colonization due to increasing pressure from Native Americans who had taken over much of their territory following British withdrawal from North America during the Seven Years' War (1754-1763). By 1800 there were over 500 people living in present day Troy. Among these pioneers were some very successful landscape architects such as Johann Georg Hühnhardt who designed several important roads through the Susquehanna Valley including Van Wyck Road which runs parallel to Delaware Avenue today; Easton Road which connects east side business districts near Mechanicsburg with west side business districts near Reading; West Side Highway which connected easternmost parts of Pennsylvania with westernmost parts across Ohio; Beaver Dam Road which ran between Bethlehem Steel Company northbound on Beaver Dam Creek upstream from Bethlehem Factory Point downstream to where it crossed state lines into Maryland then turned southward concurrent with US 21 until reaching its current terminus at US 219 just east of Scranton limits today The early years were hard for those living subsistence style farming because they could only produce enough food for themselves and their families so they didn't have much money left over forcommerce or investment like later generations did. However this changed when George Washington sent an expedition downriver in 1799 called "the Germantown Expedition" led by Rear Admiral John Graves Simcoe consisting mostly American Revolutionary War veterans under General Ethan Allen seeking revenge against Iroquois Indian leaders after they destroyed 200 homes along riverbanks west of Fort Pittsborough during raids known as " Dancing Moccasins." This expedition generated much excitement among settlers because they finally had proof that Washington was correct aboutjabbering Indians not being able to resist European settlement - something that had been rumored for years! When word got out about this big victory over Indian resistance some large landowners decided that they too should get shares in this new land! One result was that prices for farmland soared resulting in thousands more farmers starting up businesses throughout central PA!! Many young men interested in joining this new industry went off to serve in wars such as America's Revolution or World War II leaving their villages behind but old timers like Friedrich Wilhelm Hess kept things going strong by importing goods like flour from Germany & Holland while also growing crops like potatoes & beans using enslaved Africans brought over aboard ships!. Today most people still identify themselves primarily as Germans although there are plenty of English speaking residents too! There have been recent efforts made by both government officials & citizens alike to attract more non-German Residents but so far nothing seemsto be working out well! With all these changes happening around here every day you can imagine how busy everyone must be tryingto keep up with all that's going on... Plus there are always lotsof teenagers moving around!"

Troy was founded in 1785 by Capt. John Troy and his men while they were on their way to survey the area for a new military post. The town was named after John's father, who later served as its first mayor. The village of Troy grew up around the old post office and stores, and it wasn't until 1828 that the town petitioned for incorporation. In 1836, the village had a population of just over 100 people; by 1860, it had grown to more than 1,000 people. By 1895, there were more than 4,500 people living in Troy; by 1930, it had reached 11,000 residents. In the First World War, Troy played an important role in the battle of Antietam Ridge; during that engagement, about 60 percent of all casualties inflicted on Confederate forces occurred here. In postwar years, many businesses and churches relocated to Troy from other parts of New York City due to its ample housing and job opportunities. However, in 1975–76 there was a large fire that destroyed most of downtown Troy; as a result of this fire, the population plunged from 11,,000 to 7,,000 residents within five years. Afterward, efforts began to revive downtown with help from state government coffers Today's downtown is home to several restaurants and small businesses as well as a number of public services such as recreation centers and libraries.
