Troy, New York is home to many iconic firearms companies and firearms enthusiasts. The city was founded in 1789 by fur traders and has been the birthplace of a number of firearm manufacturers, including Colt Firearms Company, Smith & Wesson Firearms Company, Glock AG, and Ruger Firearms Corporation. The town became known for its high-quality firearms manufacturing products in the mid-19th century. In 1857, John M. Browning started his own gun company in Troy and soon made national headlines for developing the first successful breech-loading rifle. In 1876, Browning merged with another gun company to form Winchester Arms Company. In 1898, Winchester merged with Stanwix Arms Company to form Winchester Repeating Arms Corporation (WRA). In 1911, WRA purchased Pietta & Co., a manufacturer of percussion caps and other ammunition supplies. That same year saw the introduction of the first handgun designed expressly for self-defense – the Colt Model 1911 Pistol. From then until 1935, all handguns manufactured by WRA were chambered in .45 ACP caliber. during World War II Troy played an important role as an assembly center for arms production at various military facilities around America. This included Arsenal Ammunition plants located on Main Street which produced shells used in warships such as USS Constitution (1801 - c1865) and USS Maine (1898 - 1941). The plant also produced munitions for fighter planes like Lockheed P-38 Lightning aircraft from 1938 onwards. With the end of World War II came a period of rapid economic growth in Troy that led to increased demand for firearms products throughout New York City as well as elsewhere in North America. However, between 1948 and 1957 shipments from Arsenal Ammunition stopped entirely due to competitive pressures brought about by new technology developments within industry overall. As a result of this decline in sales activity at Armory Ammunition plant there began to be layoffs among workers followed by integration into newly created firms within local industry that would continue produce firearms until 1998 when finally all traces of Arsenal Ammunition ceased operations completely..

It is the county seat of Wayne County and home to the Troy University football team. The city was founded on July 4, 1785 by a group of Revolutionary War veterans who named it for General Marquis de Lafayette, then serving as an American general in France. In 1814, when Pope Pius VII moved the capital of Rome fromatican City to Italy, Troy became America's first capital town under French rule. In 1827, during the Bleeding Kansas Rebellion, Captain John Brown led a raid into what is now Wayne County in order to liberate his fellow Kansas citizens from slavery. After he was killed in action leading this raid, his son John Brown II took up arms against Ulysses S. Grant's forces and helped lead one of America's most famous wars – the Battle of Gettysburg – which ended with Union victory over Confederate forces at that site. This event helped catalyze American patriotism and led to increased investments in education and infrastructure throughout North America during the 19th century; these improvements have preserved Troy's status as one of North America's most prosperous cities today. In 1898, after years of wrangling between Congress and Spain over control of Puerto Rico following its purchase by US$2 million from Spanish colonists (the United States acquired Puerto Rico without any land grants or compensation), Congress passed an act declaring Troy an open port for all commerce within limits set by Congress; this act made commercial development possible in what would become one of North America’s richest regions for shipbuilding and other industrial pursuits. After many years plagued by crime rates several times higher than those found in major cities such asNew York City or Toronto,[1][2] Mayor Charles Evans began aggressive crime prevention campaigns known as "Operation Safe Streets".[3][4] These programs led to dramatic reductions in crime rates beginning before Mayor Evans' term even began while also increasing economic activity.[5][6] As part as Operation Safe Streets,[7] Mayor Evans also created numerous parks including Olivet Park,[8][9][10] Anacostia Park[11], Greenbelt park,[12], Stanley Park[13], Freedom Plaza[14],[15], among others; these parks are now some Of Gotham’s largest public recreational areas.[16][17]; In recent decades there has been significant redevelopment taking place such as FirstEnergy Stadium being built just outside town along I-95 which will house both NFL teams Cleveland Browns (now called the Baltimore Ravens) & Pittsburgh Steelers starting 2019 season
