In addition to these medical institutions there are also community health clinics providing care for general practitioners as well as more specialized clinics dealing with Addiction Medicine/Substance Abuse Services/Occupational Therapy/Hospitalization for Mental Illness/Cancer Care etc... There are also over 100 family restaurants scattered throughout the town offering everything from German cuisine to Italian food to American favorites like chicken McNuggets or pizza crusts topped with sausage or bacon. Tonawanda has been awarded numerous awards including being "Best Place To Live" by Newsweek Magazine in 2007 & 2008 among other distinctions

Tonawanda is a town in Niagara County, New York, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Tonawanda was John Gray who arrived in 1796. He left his home on the edge of present-day Tonawanda Lake and built a cabin near what is now Pittsford. In 1811, Colonel George Washington Post came to this area and founded the Post Office here. The original post office building still stands today and is one of the few remaining examples of early American architecture from that era. In 1814, landwas granted to Amos Adams for an academy which he named after himself and which became known as Adams Academy (now Schenectady Institute). In 1828, it was renamed for General William Henry Harrison who had won the Battle of Ziegler's Ridge during the Mexican–American War. On November 15th 1830, tonawandans raised their voice against Andrew Johnson's Emancipation Proclamation by rising up in anger and destroying government property throughout their community includingAdams' academy which they continued to call "the granary" until 1865 when it was closed due to lack of students; however his name still remains attached to it in local memory as "the old granary." The town's only other structure survive as a contributing part of local history museum located inside formerAdams Academy site today! A new school opened in town on May 5th 1860 with thirty pupils grades 0-9 tuition free under construction by scion merchant Horace Greeley according to historical records! That same school would become Tonawanda High School & Technology Center over time becoming responsible for educating all surrounding communities including manyioxicated children growing up within its walls starting back then! A large number of those educated within that institution would go on to become leaders or professionals throughout their townships across New York State & beyond! Governor Elias Putnam designated July 4th 1862 as "National School Day" in honorof our Founding Father George Washington whose birthday falls on that date every year & paid tributeto him with patriotic exercises both academic & military involving entire Kindergarten through Eighth Grades taking place throughout township schools across NY state leading up into summer stock managed by National Guard Troops stationed at various locations statewide daily during such events! This day continues annually& features many interesting shows/events all around our beautifulTownship while promoting patriotism not only locally but nationally too!!! The town of Tonawanda in New York was formed in 1824 from the merger of two other towns, Schenectady and Kingston. The town name is derived from the Onondaga language word "tonawa" meaning 'to grow' or 'a place to grow crops'. Tonawanda grew rapidly due to its location on the Mohawk River and its access to timber and other resources. By 1830, it had a population of around 1,500 people. In 1834, a post office was established in Tonawanda, and by 1840, it had become an important center for trade on the Susquehanna River. In 1847, Tonawanda became part of the newly created Erie County, New York. It remained an important agricultural community until after World War II when it switched focus to industrial production.
