The first firearms were invented in the town of Tonawanda, New York in 1836. The early firearms were primitive and consisted of a simple wooden bow and arrow. However, these handguns were very effective and quickly became popular among local farmers and hunters. By 1855, pistol production had begun in Tonawanda and by 1860, rifles had also been developed. This was a time when guns were becoming more important to society as they became an essential part of militia forces and militias needed to protect settlements from Native American attacks. In 1876, the Town of Tonawanda passed a law that allowed citizens to own shotguns for recreational purposes only. This law served as a major impetus for the development of shotgun manufacturing in the town. Shotguns began being produced commercially inTonawanda beginning in1887. During World War II, gun-manufacturing interests shifted focus towards producing munitions for the war effort rather than firearms themselves which led to a decline in gun-making activity throughout the town during this time period. However, this is not to say that firearm production did not continue at any point during World War II; it simply ceased completely due to wartime restrictions on ammunition production

In 1868, the Tonawanda Pistol & rifle club was organized in Tonawanda. The first weapon to be registered with the club was a Winchester rifle. In 1912, the pistol and rifle club adopted a constitution and bylaws that stated: "The purpose of this organization shall be to promote hunting, fishing and shooting." In 1914, the society held its first meeting at the home of George P. Miller. On May 9th, 1915, the society held its second meeting at Mr. & Mrs. Lillie Acker's home in Tonawanda after being invited by Capt Rufus Wiman who served as President of Erie County from 1913-1915. In 1918, Yorktown Rifle Club became an affiliate of Tonawanda Pistol & Rifle Club and both societies continued to meet together until 1934 when Yorktown disbanded due to financial difficulties. The Society of American Armory (SAA) formed in 1938 out of merger between two other organizations - Buffalo Gunsmiths Association and New York State Rifle Association - which were also affiliated withTonawanda Pistol & Rifle Club . The SAA sponsored annual meetings for all affiliates until 1949 when it ceased operations due to lack of membership

Tonawanda was founded in 1785 by the Dutch traders as a trading post on the Mohawk River. The town grew rapidly during the Revolutionary War, and by 1800 it had over a thousand residents. After the war, Tonawanda became an important center for trade and transportation on the Erie Canal. In 1825, the village was renamed after General John Fenton (1765-1829), who led American forces in the Battle of Fallen Timbers. The town declined during the Great Depression, but regained its prosperity during World War II as a strategic center for munitions production. Tonawanda has since experienced significant growth, especially due to its location within easy reach of New York City. Today,Tonawanda is one of New York's most vibrant cities and an important cultural and economic hub.

Tonawanda, New York is a town in Broome County, New York, United States. The population was 1,874 at the 2010 census. The name "Tonawanda" is derived from the Iroquois word "tonnawa" meaning "place of plenty." It was first settled by the Mohawk nation and later by Algonquian-speaking people. The area that now makes up Tonawanda was part of what is now included in Utica Township. In 1814, the town of Tonawanda was organized from parts of two other towns: Canajoharie and West Seneca. On November 6, 1825, it became a city with a population of 5,000 under the name of “Tonawanda”. The Hudson River served as its primary water supply until 1872 when an aqueduct was built to bring water from Niagara Falls into the city. In 1916–17, during World War I, many Tonawandans served in the military including Adolph Hitler's adjutant general Reinhard Heydrich and Edwin J. Smithwick who served as Mayor during Prohibition years (1915-1921). On October 25th 1865,[6] Major General John Prentice ordered all American Indian detachments west of Fort Erie to disband because they were not fulfilling their treaty obligations with white settlers and were engaging in raids against whites; this order led to open warfare between American Indian forces and European settlers which lasted until 17 June 1666 when British troops arrived to quell hostilities[7]. This event is generally regarded as beginning the final days of Longueval’s French colony on North America mainland which ended with Quebec’s independence in 1763[8]. New Yorkers began arriving gradually after English traders had discovered new territory along Lake Ontario in 1624; some established trading posts on the northern shoreline while others went inland for fur trade or developed landowning interests.[9][10][11] Under Governor ChristopherONeill (1686-1748), English colonists started building forts at present day Tonawanda Harbor in 1703 following successful efforts to drive out Native Americans living there[12][13] but no permanent settlement occurred until 1714 when Captain Samuel Herkimer founded Herkimertown on Otsego Lake near present day Schenectady City Limits due to his discovery that rich copper resources could be found there[14]. By 1800 over 60% of all activity within Albany took place along Oneonta Creek where British traders met various indigenous groups including Mohawks who traded goods such as beads and flint tools before finally concluding treaties governing their interactions with Europeans[15][16] In 1800 both Canada and Great Britain possessed claims to most of North America but joint operations resulted in only small areas being claimed by each country except for what are today New York State and OntarioMinnesota

In 1825, the town of Tonawanda was established on the east bank of the Susquehanna River. The first settler in what is now Tonawanda was Nicholas D’Angelo, who arrived in 1824. By 1830, there were over 100 people living inTonawanda. In 1836, a post office was established in the town and by 1840, it had a population of 350 people. In 1846, a school was built in Tonawanda and by 1850, it had a population of 400 students. A theater was also built in Tonawanda and by 1860, it had a population of 150 people. By 1870, the town had a population of 1,500 people and by 1880, it had 2,000 residents. In 1898-99, an express train service called the “Tonawanda Mail” operated between Buffalo and New York City. The service stopped at Tonawanda Station on its way to Buffalo or New Haven but continued freight trains to other stops along the route including Scranton and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The last passenger train ran fromTonawanda Station on October 15th 1899 when all tracks were closed due to construction projects being undertaken at that station which included an additional track for servicing local mines during gold rush days.
