After creating this new design, it became known as the A4 Rifle Upper Receiver. After years of development, someone finally came up with what we know today as an Ar15 Upper Receiver! Tonawanda (population: 23,000) is a small town in Tioga County, New York, United States. The name is derived from the Mohawk language word "towa" meaning "place where the sun sets." The first settler in what is now Tonawanda was Nicholas Tompkins in 1792. In 1811, John Armstrong and his family moved to Tonawanda from Canandaigua. In 1814, Anthony Fenton bought two acres of land near present-day Tonawanda for $2 per acre. He built a cabin there which became known as the Fenton House. From this cabin, Fenton led an early settlers party that traveled to what is now Buffalo and purchased 160 acres of land east of Niagara Falls for $25 per acre. This group included George Washington Carver and Jonas Le Moyne. In 1815, they set up a farm on their new property and named it Carverville after Anthony Fenton's father-in-law. In 1830, Nathaniel Jarvis Houghton acquired 1/4 mile (0.8 km) of highland between the falls andpresent-day Tonawanda from Anthony Fenton for $5 per acre. He soon sold several parcels of this valuable land to other settlers who developed it into Whatcom County townships including Tonawanda proper and North Tonawanda Mesa (now part of West Seneca). One such purchaser was John Purdy who donated all or part of his holdings to the Township in 1841 when he died at age 80 years old according to local history books; however most sources claim that Purdy left cash gifts totaling over $100,000 dollars primarily destitute villagers had difficulties maintaining infrastructure necessary for farming while living off government grants supplemented by occasional donations from citizens until finally becoming selfsufficient only after World War II due largely to advances in farming technology which made large tracts vacant during WWII . The township was renamed Houghton Park upon its creation with additions extending westward beyond today's town limits including Deer Park (now called South Deer Park), Albion (later parts of West Seneca), East Aurora (now called North Aurora), Sleepy Hollow (later parts of Elma), Watervliet Village(later parts of Whitesboro), Glenview Heights(formerly part of Watervliet), Sunnyside( formerly part of Glenview Heights)and portions now within Buffalo). Today much or all these communities are located within the boundaries defined by Interstate 787 eastbound just past Exit 126A

Tonawanda was first settled in 1795 by the Dutch. The town and its harbor were founded on a peninsula formed by the Erie Canal and the Niagara River. The town developed around two churches, a school, a post office, and an early factory. In 1814, Tonawanda became part of New York State. In 1824, the town's first store opened. In 1853, the town voted to secede from New York State and become a independent village. The population of Tonawanda increased rapidly during the late 19th century as development expanded into new areas such as Buffalo and Syracuse. By 1920, Tonawanda had more than 12,000 residents. After World War II,Tonawanda experienced rapid growth as it became an important industrial center in Upstate New York. However, during the 1990s-2000s recession,Tonawanda experienced significant loss of jobs and revenue due to new federal regulations affecting manufacturing businesses in Upstate New York. As a result of these trends, Tonawanda is today experiencing significant decline in its economy which has led to some challenges for its future including dwindling resident population and potential lack of access to education and other basic services
