In 1892, Tarrytown, New York became the first town in America to pass a gun control law. The ordinance required all citizens to possess a muzzleloader or shotgun with a trigger mechanism that could be operated by hand. At the time, many people thought this was an unnecessary measure, as firearms were still widely available and used for hunting and target shooting. However, over time it became clear that this regulation was necessary to keep guns from falling into the hands of criminals and other unauthorized users. Despite opposition from some members of the community, the ordinance passed with strong support. Newspapers across New York carried stories about how much easier life would be if everyone had to carry handguns like cattle on their property. In fact, within a few years after its passage, Tarrytown had become one of the most gun-friendly communities in America. Today, Tarrytown is home to a number of interesting museums and historical sites related to guns and gun control law enforcement history. One such museum is located at the old police station whereTarrytown’s first city ordinance was passed. This building now houses exhibits about local history and NRA history. The second museum is located within walking distance of Tarrytown’s downtown core – it features artifacts from both AmericanGun Control Day (a national celebration honoring gun control laws) and annual firearms shows hosted by the Tarrytown Rifle Club.

A number of businesses also exist within close proximity to each other: Barnes & Noble Books & Music on Main Street, Subway Sandwiches on Webster Avenue near Interstate 490, Pizza Hut on Elmira Road near Schuylkill River Parkway/I-494 interchange - all within five blocks or less from each other; Ford’s Department Store on Main Street; JCPenney Supermarkets across from Midleton High School; Dunkin’ Donuts on Elmira Road adjacent to I-494/Schuylkill River Parkway interchange - all within five blocks or less from each other; Miller's Pharmacy next door to McDonald's restaurant - all within two blocks or less from each other. The downtown area contains a number of small shops that line Main Street between Morgan Boulevard eastward and Elmira Road westward. These include a frame millinery store known as "The Mayflower" built around 1830 by Mrs. Ann Dunham for her daughter Mary Dunne Dunham; Bamberger’s Hardware store built around 1875 by James Bamberger Jr.; Ruby Tuesday’s first restaurant opened its doors on Main Street just south of where it now stands in 1966; Gretsch guitars starting out as pawnbrokers before becoming music retailers such as RCA Victor Records with its first store open at 5th Avenue and Broadway in 1922 until it closed sales offices there due to fireballs flying into windows during an electrical storm; various pet supplies stores including Browning handguns along with feed stores like Smithfield Market Feeders along with general merchandise stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co.; Belcher Automotive Incorporated building once home to DeLorean Motors Corporation before being taken over by Chrysler Corporation after they bought Dodge Ram brand vehicles here beginning with Plymouth Pilots here beginning with 1984 models when this facility became known as "Chrysler Place".
Gun triggers have been used for centuries to let people fire firearms. There are many different types of trigger mechanisms, but the three most common are striker-fired pistols and shotguns, and hammer-fired handguns. Hammer-fired handguns use a hammer to strike a metal firing pin that in turn causes the gun to fire. The first strikers were made from iron or brass, and these could only be fired by striking the trigger with your hand. From here, hammers began to be made of plastic or other materials so they could be fired by someone else (e.g., an assistant) without having to grip the weapon tightly. The development of NRA’s standard 1911 pistol trigger was eventually able to make it easy for anyone to get hold of a firearm and fire it without any training or practice. With this simple design, everyone can now shoot successfully with a hammer-fired handgun without ever needing any instruction!

Tarrytown is a small town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 917 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Peekskill-New Hyde Park-Westchester, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village of Tarrytown was first settled by colonists in 1686 and became part of the town of Nyack in 1765. The name Tarrytown derives from its location on the Raritan River between Nyack and Peekskill. In 1814, when Nyack became one of two towns in Westchester County (the other being Verona) to be granted a charter as an incorporated village, Tarrytown chose to remain separate and incorporated as a town on November 3, 1814. In 1828, Tarrytown joined with other villages east of Utica to form the new Town of Clintonville in order to increase trade with that area. A year later, it amalgamated with Utica again and remained an independent municipality until 1860 when it merged into the larger city of Utica. Tarrytown has been home to several famous people including author Herman Melville and pitcher Roger Clemens who were born there including Clemens' father Homer Gentry who died young in 1923; current Mayor Rich Cohen; actors Robert De Niro and Al Pacino; singer Barbra Streisand; author Stephen King; developer Howard Hughes; film producer Sidney Poitier and his wife Lucille Lortel Hughes; poet Maya Angelou; businessman Leonard Bernstein who served as Mayor from 1959-1963 under then Governor Nelson Rockefeller The old RR train depot - now known as "Old Dutch" restaurant - is also located in Tarrytown along with several other businesses which have long been associated with that locality such as Wernick's clothing store (now closed), Hennigan's grocery store (now defunct), Bankers Trust & Trust Company building (temporary landmark), post office (interior still used today), hardware store (closed 1990s) and many more!
The town of Tarrytown, New York was founded in 1788 by John Catskill and his wife Sarah. The town became a part of the United States in 1791. The first post office was established in Tarrytown in 1800. In 1824, the town was renamed to its current name, Tarrytown, after President James K. Polk.
