This event became known as the Sack of Quebec City.Upon his return from Canada Wolfe found that Québec had been sacked and burnt by Royalist forces loyal to Queen Anne; he consequently declared war against her for this action. In 1715 Sir William Johnson founded a new town on neckage land east of present-day downtown Syracuse along Orange River which he named Johnsontown after himself and two other settlers who had accompanied him there that winter: John Watts (1688–1749) and Benjamin West (1689–1764). In 1718 Alexander Hamilton moved from nearby Geneva to establish a competing claims system for territory west of Niagara Falls under which he namedHamilton's Town after himself; however this claim too failed when British troops burned it down in 1755 during their campaign against George Washington's Continental Army during the American Revolution. A new town hall was built at First Street & Third Avenue nearpresent-dayOld Central Parkin 1802 following plans by general Peter Gansevoort who divided up Onondaga County into townships based on racial or religious boundaries then offered parcels thereof to various settlers whom he deemed friendly or advantageous to his cause including Thomas Paine who chose it for his homebase for philosophical research due to its close proximity to Kingston Upon Hull where Parliament met annually between 1705 and 1712 under joint governance with London; Paine would later become famous as an author thanks largely to his translations from French into English of works by Voltaire and Jean Baptiste Rousseau which were published anonymously between 1757 and 174
