A variety of choke types were developed over time including those found on shotguns (ejection ports), rifles (fixed shotgun stocks) and handguns (fixed handgun stocks). In 1907, Brown & Government introduced a new type of choked barrel called "flanged" which eliminated many potential problems associated with earlier types such as ejection port construction which made it difficult for users to control how many rounds could be chambered at one time. The introduction of flanged barrels led to increased popularity among law enforcement officers who needed reliable ammunition compatibility while training their suspects. Gun chokes continue to play an important role in firearms today - they are often used when shooting practice or competition, as well as when hunting or target shooting specifically because they provide reliable control over the flow of ammunition through the muzzle device
