Suffern, New York is a small town in Upstate New York, located on the border of Erie County and Niagara County. The population was 3,707 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Suffern was George Purdy in 1814. The community was established on a farm known as "Purdy's Corners". In 1846, Suffern became a town when it was annexed by Buffalo. In 1915, sufferns got their own Post Office and took their name from Suffern Township, Ontario which they had been founded in 1811. On July 1st 1907,sufferns got its own railroad station which helped increase trade with other communities in the area. Suffern has many cultural activities including an annual summer festival known as "Festival of Arts" and various plays and concerts throughout the year. There are also art galleries located throughout the community as well as several professional sports teams that play in local leagues across upstate New York: the Sabres (NHL), Bills (NFL) and Giants (MLB).

Suffern is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Suffern was Peter Fitzpatrick on October 3, 1786. The name "Suffern" may be from a Scots word meaning "to succor." In 1802, John Ritchie built one of the first frame homes in Erie County and named it after his benefactor and friend James Davenport. suffern-davenport post office was established in 1803 at this location. In 1825, Samuel Beech bought land southwest of the village and laid out a new town called Suffern on its surface. He named it after his father-in-law's estate near Niagara Falls which he had visited while serving as an officer with Ulysses S Grant's army during the Mexican War In 1830, Jno Fenton platted what is now downtown Suffern with lots that cost $1 each and started selling them to pioneers who would build their homes there. By 1840, there were over 100 residences in downtown Suffern including many by architect Horace Greeley who designed the first public schools for western New York The Panic of 1893 led to social changes throughout western New York as farmers became milliners and textile workers outside of cities lost their jobs along with most other economic activity across northeastern United States during that time period . DowntownsuffERN began to decline following this recession although some revival has occurred recently due to development around First Niagara Center which replaced much of downtownon Grand River Avenue between Ferry Road (now Erie Street) and Main Street
Suffern is a town in Upstate New York, located on the east bank of the Hudson River. As of the 2010 census, its population was 5,604. The first settler in Suffern was Nicholas Defoe in 1684. In 1814, Nathan Sargeant founded Sargeant's Mills on the north side of the river and his heirs continue to operate it today. The town formed from part of Manhasset Township on April 12, 1836. On February 24, 1846, Suffern had a tornado that damaged or destroyed most of its downtown businesses and homes. It took several weeks for the town to recover and by late June it had only limited business activity due to reconstruction efforts which cost upwards of $1 million dollars. In 1899 suffern residents raised money through a local drives program to build a new school; this building became known as "The White House." The school closed in 1922 whensuffern merged with neighboring towns Clinton and Hastingsville into one entity under the name "Hastingsville". In 1951 suffern absorbed part of nearby DeWitt Clinton Airport making it one of the first municipalities in New York State to do so.
