Spring Valley is a small community in the town of Westchester County, New York. It was first settled by Dutch immigrants in the late 17th century. The village had a post office from 1892 until 1953. In 1967, it merged with neighboring village of Valhalla to form the current municipality of Spring Valley. He later served as mayor and then as a justice on the Westchester County court system from 1828 to 1830. Other early settlers include John Cushing, who came to live here in 1798; Ebenezer Cook, who came in 1800; Amos Kendall, also known as Amasa Kendall; David Nevue; Job Snider; and Solomon Gruenwald. A number of prominent businessmen and politicians have been resident or natives of Spring Valley over time including: Daniel Burnham (founder and first president of Chicago), Grover Cleveland (Ulysses S. Grant's Vice President), Alfred Ewing (prime minister during World War I), Irving Teitelbaum (presidential advisor during Watergate Crisis), Carl Sagan (astronomer) and others

The first known permanent European settlement in Spring Valley was a group of French fur traders who arrived in 1755. The town was named after the spring where they built their winter quarters. The first building erected in Spring Valley was a log cabin, which is now the Spring Valley Museum. In 1812, the United States acquired land east of present-day New York City from Great Britain in what is now Pennsylvania. This land included part of present-day Spring Valley and became known as Easton Township. In 1814, the township was merged with nearby Westover Township to form Spring Valley Township. The first school in Spring Valley were two schools that were built on the same site as the current Spring Valley Museum and School District Administration Building. They were both operated by private individuals and are no longer operational. In 1847, Easton Township merged with neighboring Lancaster County to form this present day state of New York. Spring valley has been consistently inhabited for at least 12,000 years and may have beenolder than any other community in New York state
