Sleepy Hollow is a small town in the Catskills located in upstate New York. The town was once home to over 10,000 people and was known for its many industries including papermaking, cotton farming, brewing, and logging. Most of these jobs have since disappeared but the town still has a few remaining businesses that continue to produce these goods. The first tool manufacturer in Sleepy Hollow was Nicholas J. Tompkins who made garden tools and agricultural implements from 1820-1830. Other early manufacturers included John Woolridge (1799-1858) who built a sawmill around 1827, and Ebenezer Sprague (1811-1884) who manufactured plows, carts, dogsleds, wagonloads of coal and other items between 1830 and 1840. By 1860 only 2% of the population remained employed in agriculture while nearly all of the remainder worked within the new industrial base that had emerged around mills and factories. This shift away from agriculture helped make Sleepy Hollow one of New York’s most industrialized towns by 1870. In 1876 Lewis Hine established what would become one of Sleepy Hollow’s most famous businesses: Hine Camera & Film Company which produced motion pictures until 1922 when it merged with Universal Pictures company). Many prominent residents of Sleepy Hollow were associated with this business such as Harry Houdini (1902-1989), Irving Guggenheim (1900-1985), Alice Paul (1915-1996), James Baldwin (1925-2008), Don DeLillo (1972-) And Ed Gein (1926-. ) .

By 1836, the town had started to grow around the schoolhouse which was then known as the Academy. The townspeople built a jail in 1837 and a post office in 1840. In 1846, the people of Sleepy Hollow voted to create a township. In 1870, they decided to rename the town after General Ulysses S. Grant because he had helped get them their independence from Great Britain. The town continued to grow until it reached its current size in 1898 when it became a village

The first Europeans to visit Sleepy Hollow were Dutch traders in 1611. They were looking for a place to land their ships because they could not find any good sites in the area. One day, one of these traders met an Indian woman named Rosamond who told him about a place called “Hollow” which she said was haunted by several ghosts who would attack anyone who went there. This information got into the hands of some Dutchmen and they decided to go check out what all the fuss was about. When they arrived at “Hollow”, they found that it was really only anIndian village with no ghosts present! A few weeks later, another group of Dutchmen also visited “Hollow” but this time they encountered more ghostly activity than before- many people had died or been killed thereabouts due to fear or superstition around those spirits!. So began what has become one of America's most popular hauntings- Sleepy Hollow! For centuries, people have come from all over to see if there are any real ghosts living in this small town- many continue to do so even after elaborate investigations by paranormal experts have failed to produce any evidence whatsoever! There are many theories circulating around how sleepy hollow started- some say it started when two farmers driving home from getting milk stopped at “Hollow” on their way back from buying shares in a company nearby; according to legend, one member of the farmer's family fell asleep during the trip and never woke up again! Another theory suggests that early settlers brought over Ouija boards which allegedly helped them communicate with the spirits residing within! Sleepy Hollow is a small town in upstate New York, located on the border of Ontario and Monroe counties. The population was 7,500 at the 2000 census. Sleepy Hollow is home to the eponymous society house, which has been used as a rancho since 1836. The first Europeans to visit Sleepy Hollow were French traders in 1624 who named it Monaca (meaning "mockery" or "tourney"). In 1701, Nicholas Montresor built a fort at the entrance of the village after his father-in-law discovered a fur trade route through that area. In 1710, Timothy Pickering established an inland salt mine in what is now Sleepy Hollow and claimed land for New York from Sir George Carteret on behalf of King George II. One year later, he sold this mineral rights to James Kieft for $2,000 cash and 20 acres (8 ha) of swamp with trees for farming purposes. In 1713–14 when English colonists were exploring western New York following their arrival from Nova Scotia, they found an easterly wind cutting through a hill near where modern-day Sleepy Hollow sits. They called this place Ishmael's Hole because no one could explore it because of its tightness from top to bottom. In 1717–18 while surveying part of what is now Monroe County along what becomes Westchester County line there was an accident involving four men descending into Ishmael’s Hole: two drowned; one man survived but was so incapacitated by altitude sickness that he never recovered; and another man became trapped under ice until help arrived three days later by Cutter’s boat! This incident led explorer Jonathan Edwards to nickname the hole Ishmael’s Well because it resembled nothing found in North America before him! A post office called Idlewild had been established at Monaca in 1809 by John Norton but changed its name to Sleepy Hollow in 1827 when Postmaster General Elijah Wood opened up new postal routes further into Upstate New York beyond Albany and Buffalo due to increasing mail traffic between those cities along with demand for faster service from rural residents east of Albany who relied on horse carts traveling down river bed instead of waiting long periods for wagonloads of mail carried downriver by ferryloads! Dwight Eisenhower also visited Sleepy Hallow during his presidential campaign stop on November 3rd 1954 during his drive across central New York State visiting all seven county seats plus Kingston where he offered prayers at St Augustine's Cathedral before stopping at Cold Springs Inn outside Schenectady then driving back south past Syracuse en route back north through Albany where he delivered his speech inside Madison Square Garden! After leaving Syracuse Ike stopped off overnight at International Falls making history as the only US president ever honored with such an event while campaigning within commuting distance both mainstem & outlying Counties! Heading back home via Rochester early next morning we passed under Niagara Falls enroute & completed our drive!!!
