When the United States acquired independence from Great Britain in 1776, one of the first issues on the table was firearms. One such law was the Second Amendment to the US Constitution, which guaranteed citizens the right to bear arms “for defense of self and others.” In 1868, New York became one of the states that ratified this amendment into law. It is the namesake of an Erie Canal town in upstate New York. The name Sleepy Hollow may have originated from Indian trails that passed through what is now the town. In 1824, General John Armstrong's forces fought at Fallen Timbers there after invading Ohio and pushing Native Americans out of their hunting grounds in what is now Monroe County. In 1792, Nicholas-Jacques Conte settled on a tract of land between Sleepy Hollow Lake and Mohawk Creek south of present-day Seymourtown. He named his community after his Ferry Point home near Fallstown, Connecticut. There are several theories as to how Sleepy Hollow got its name: One suggests that colonists were tired during winter months of staying up all night travelling through frozen woods; another suggests that Indians called it Napanee because it looked like a hollowed tree; still others say that early settlers named their community after some localities they had difficulties reaching by foot or horseback due to snow cover or low visibility during winter nights... By 1800, most buildings in Sleepy Hollow consisted only of wigwams with no masonry support other than logs used for roofing and Heard House (the first permanent structure built) was not completed until 1825 despite being started in 1794. With more roads developing throughout the area over this period*, people began moving into Sleepy Hollow from surrounding villages such as Clinton and Scituate* beginning in earnest around 1830*. During Reconstruction following the Civil War*, many Yankees moved into rural areas west of Buffalo to take advantage of cheap land prices†† resulting in increased numbers withinsleepylowhollow.* Many residents here continued to identify themselves as "Yankees" even though they had once lived eastof Buffalo*‡† Some notable residents include James Fenimore Cooper who wrote “The History Of Pawnees And Iroquois In America” here; Abraham Lincoln who attended school here before attending Yale University; Edwin Booth who played Dracula here; Edwin Drood – one half brother/half-sister to Fenton Henderson – who ran a tannery HERE; singer Bobby Vinton *and actor Lon Chaney Jr., both natives *were born hereabouts *. The Venetians also used gun locks on palaces, embassies, and other important buildings. In the 18th century, British gunlocks began appearing on warships. They were later replaced by boarding guns, which could be fired from a distance using rockets or torpedoes. In the early 20th century, rifle stocks were sometimes locked with knobs called “stocks”. These stocks had a round hole in the center that was used to insert a keyhole shaped piece of metal that corresponded with the stock’s manufacturer’s logo. This type of lock usually required two keys: one for turning it and one for unlocking it. Many factories produced different types of rifles with different lockout systems, so it was difficult to identify which type of lock belonged to which firearm. The first handgunlock appeared in 1903 when French inventor Maurice Sendak designed an improved version of his earlier pistollock design known as the Sendak-Lacroix Pistol Lock (S/P). This newLock featured a safety catch that operated like a thumb safety on most handguns and allowed only those with matching keys (usually owners) to open it; others had to borrow or purchase another person’s key ring or safe combination from an adjacent room in order to try opening it .
