Sleepy Hollow is a small town in upstate New York, located on the east side of the Mohawk River. It dates back to 1724 and is home to one of the first gun shops in America, The Newtown Arms Company. Today, Sleepy Hollow is known for its historical sites and as a place where people can enjoy firearmskayaking, hunting and fishing. The first European settlers in this area were French Huguenots who arrived in 1624. The name “Sleepy Hollow” derived from the Indian word kah-nuh-tuh which meant “the hollows near by” or “leaving behind them their effects”. There was actually no hollow that was called Sleepy Hollow at that time because there were several other settlements nearby including Westville (now part of Utica), Cornish Settlement (now Kingston) and White Sands (now White Plains). In 1724, John Tryon founded the new town of Sleepy Hollow on the east bank of the Mohawk River after finding land here by chance while exploring his holdings downstream. He named it after his daughter Springtime who had been kidnapped by Abenaki Indians during a raid some years earlier. Tryon also purchased some swamp land within present day Sleepy Hollow to provide additional lots for his community. At around this time, Europeans began using firearms for self-defense against Native Americans and intruders into their territory. In 1729, Jacob Riis published an article about crime in New York entitled "The Municipal Reports of Manhattan" which outlined how handguns were being usedolitanly to commit crimes such as robbery and burglary without getting caught because law enforcement was unavailable at that time. This article inspired many others throughout New York City to start carrying handguns for personal protection as well. In 1745, James Whitcomb bought land adjacent to present day Sleepy Hollow from Tryon for $1 per acre which he later donated back to the townspeople in order to create a parkland area ideal for sportsman shooting games and rifle ranges dating back to 1812 . When Whitcomb died in 1809 his estate included over 175 acres aroundpresent day Dismal Swamp Park including what is now Sleepy Hollow where he built two shotguns manufacturing mills on three streams which provided power for these factories until 1830 when they closed due to competition from turbines manufactured elsewhere .

This weapon was used by Patriot soldiers during the Revolutionary War.

The population was 1,872 at the 2010 census. The name Sleepy Hollow is derived from an old Indian name for the area, Ticonderoga. For many years it was thought that the place was haunted by one or more ghosts who had been killed there during what are now called ghost hunts. One particular story tells of a woman who died young in childbirth and her husband, who went to find her body after she had been Missing for several days. They found her corpse next to a stream with an infant caught in between her legs. A legend has it that if you knock on the door of any house near Sleepy Hollow while it's still dark outside, you will be able to hear someone inside snoring gently. The first European settlers in this area were Dutch farmers who arrived around 1625 CE. By 1714 they had built a cabin on the hill overlooking Sleepy Hollow where they lived until 1810 when their holdings were sold to Major George Clinton and his brother-in-law Colonel Moses Woodbury Jr.. In 1792, General James Wolfe’s army attacked Fort Niagara and destroyed much of its artillery as part of his victory over British forces at Saratoga Springs; this event is also known as “the night attack” because no lights were seen or heard within dozens of miles radius from the fort following the assault One local legend has it that General Wolfe actually entered through one of these doors leading into what is now called “the Saloon” barrow which still stands just off Route 126 east side of town today (accessible from Old Routes 26 & 27). It should be noted that although most villagers believe that there once was a saloon in Sleepy Hollow, this building has since been demolished and replaced by apartments – making it difficult if not impossible to verify such claims While some skirmishes took place here during America’s Revolutionary War including Battle Of White Marsh on October 11th 1777 between Patriot militia under Nathanael Greene and Royal Canadian Infantry under Alexander Mackenzie; all damage done to property subsequent thereto cannot be verified due lack evidence present Finally however another version thereof suggests that both sides sacked headquarters at least twice before finally withdrawing back towards Monmouth Junction where morning light revealed2(mostly) casualties on both sides with Generals Howe and Mackenzie taking refuge behind FRIEDMAN HOUSE ON MONMOUTH JUNCTION RD . Even though most historians discount any significance attached whatsoever to these accounts prior to 1800 CE; recent archaeological excavation conducted near downtown Sleeping HIllows providing new insights into pre-Revolutionary era life & activities provides convincing evidence that establishment @ NIGHT OF FEARS CAME BEFORE ENERGY SUPPLY BARRIERS ADDRESSING THE AREA TODAY .
