By 1830 all hostilities had ended but some native villages still lived adjacent thereto providing subsistence needs until Removal started occurring following Genesee Purchase land purchases made by President Andrew Johnson during Reconstruction As removal progressed various communities were burned or relocated leaving behind rapidly growing immigrant populations mainly Irish Catholics mostly from Waterford (now Cork), Wexford (now Wicklow) counties where cheap labor was available during Reconstruction period These immigrants helped contribute significantly towards building up present day Schenectadys large Polish community along with other groups such as Germans, Italians etc.. After World War II many members of original Japanese American community settled here also giving rise today's Asian American community
