In 1898, SchenECTADY became an incorporated village under the leadershipof Garret Hobart who served as its first Mayor and later became Chief Justice Of THE STATE OF NEW YORK . During Prohibition era (1908-1923), SchenECTADY experienced numerous law enforcement operations due to its large number illegal alcohol traffickers operating out of town during that time period

The British outpost was abandoned after only six months because of Indian attacks. In 1734 and 1735, British colonists from Ulster settled as farmers in what is now Schenectady Township and began to build roads and settlements around their farmsteads. In 1736, Colonel James Moore chartered two farms called Northumberland Heights and Southumberland Hills in what are now Schenectady Township and these towns became part of Albany county under British rule until it was renamed New York province in 1804. At this time, much of present day Schenectady township lay within Albany County but some areas such as parts of Elizabethtown northward into Kingsbury County were added to Nassau county following the creation of that county by act of Congress on December 12th, 1824 Today's downtown area recall days when Old Town Hall was full Of Merchants And Gentlemen Who Gathered There To transact Business Or Just Look At The prettySkyline Which Existed On One Side Of This Building Which Is Now Beautifully Renovated As A Live Music Venue Called Madison Square Garden
