In 1892, a group of Schenectady businessmen started to produce a new type of revolver, the "Swivel-Action Rifle." The rifle was developed as an Improvement on the Colt Model 1851. The Swivel-Action Rifle featured a swiveling barrel that allowed it to be aimed in all directions. It also had a rotating gripstock which made it easier for shooters to control the weapon. The rifle was quickly adopted by the military and became known as the .45 Colt Army Pistol. After World War I, many American soldiers were stationed in Great Britain and Europe, where they needed firearms with both long range accuracy and easy handling. This led to the production of millions of copies of the .45 Colt Army Pistol, which eventually became popular among civilian shooters too. Today, gunswivels are still used by some enthusiasts as antique firearm accessories or for training purposes. They have been around since before pistols were invented!
