In 1717, they founded Fishkill on newly acquired land along Mohawk River north of present-day SchenECTADY (now downtown) and laid out streets grid-wise beginning with Catharine Street between King's Ferry Road and Fort George after being granted a patent by George Washington as part of his Northwest Indian Treaty negotiated at Fort Stanwix near Niagara Falls – thus founding today's town center including most civic buildings dating back to that time such as City Hall, Town Meeting Hall, Schoolhouse No. 2 etc.). In 1807, an actwas passed by the Legislature empowering "the Board of Education" which had been established earlier that year to provide public education through common schools throughout all parts of this colony including within each township... This board became known as "the Boarding House Committee". A new school building was erected soon thereafter on present day Water Street just south of Market Square; this building served as the first high school for girls in upstate New York… As more families immigrated into the community over time there became more pressing needs for space so a new school building was built on First Avenue between Third and Fourth Streets which served as our current High School from 1922 until 1963 when it burned down (#3 Fire also destroyed other buildings around here)). In 1813/14 Nicholas Fenton bought 5 lots adjoining Raymond Heights Estate for $1125 each – becoming one of very few developers during that period who purchased whole blocks rather than fractional shares – paving way for future generations like himself when he developed some valuable parcels still extant today totaling .27 acres bordering Raymond Heights Estate (@ corner 3rd Ave & Park Ave) later annexed by neighboring Troyhill Village (@ corner 4th Ave & Park Ave)). With his purchase came also responsibility for maintaining said tracts via regular planting/maintenance patrols @ night due to lack thereof then! By 1830s nearly all properties within boundaries mentioned above were either sold or leased off or otherwise disposed but note certain tracts are still held dear by descendants like myself…………….. ” scenic college campus map

It was named for General John Jacob Astor, who had bought most of what is now Schenectady County from the Iroquois Confederacy in 1784. The first white settler in Schenectady Township was Samuel Webber in 1792. The Town of Rome (later renamed Rome) source its name from Pope Julius II's visit to that city on October 11, 1585. That summer, King George III granted a charter to the Republic of Rome which included land west of Mohawk Lake that had been forfeit by the Iroquois after their defeat at Saratoga Creek two years earlier. Northumberland County began forming onFebruary 24, 1777 when Albany counties were split between New York and Pennsylvania under James Ketterer's Order No. 1; Schenectadny Township remained part of Albany County until January 1st 1802 when it became part of Troy Township.. Newburgh and Utica Railroad reached Schenectady in 1825 and soon there were numerous small industries dotting every block or so along both sides of Broadway Avenue: flour mills, sawmills, hat shops, boot and shoe stores etcetera... In 1830 John D’Angelo opened up his successful grocery store on Main Street near what is now Park Avenue... D’Angelo & Co., as it would later become known developed into one of the leading grocery stores in America with more than 400 stores across three different brands by 1860... The Erie Canal arrived at Schenectady via Seneca Lake just prior to its completion in 1825 and this added another layer to village life as boat shipments could now be made directly from Canandaigua Harbor... The canal brought new industry such as shipbuilding yards and locks etcetera all located right next door to each other within walking distance... Navigation through Seneca Falls Lock became possible for vessels larger than boats only after construction began on September 10th 1830 by Colonel Amos Kendall…This lock prevented navigation upstream pastSeneca Falls Dam which formed Niagara River below… plaza found today facing Clinton Street marks where Colossal Statue once stood erected as a gift from Great Britain following victory over America during the Battle Of Fort Erie (15 July 1945)
