Consequently, Conte Manor passed through several hands until it came into ownership by Yale University in 1919 (Moses). After years of use by various institutions before finally coming under control of Scarsdale Community College in 1967 (Lang), Conte Manor again found its way into the hands of local residents. Currently owned and operated by Scarsdale Historical Society as an educational resource center/research library/museum,)Conte Manor is one of only a few remaining examples of pre-20th century astronomical equipment still in active use today. With its isolation from other localities, Scarsdale grew slowly until it began to experience significant growth after World War II when numerous factories located in nearby Wayne and Sullivan counties relocated their operations to Scarsdale during the wartime boom period. This led to increased economic development which has helped support both the local economy and distinctive character of this historically black town.
