In 1960 Scarsdale voters adopted a new form of government with township status which allowed for more self-government with elections held every four years instead of twice yearly like traditional townships. In 1984 Scarsdale became one of thirteen townships within New York State upon statehood. In 2006 the Town Board eliminated all public transportation within town limits except buses operated by NY Transit outside of Poughkeepsie/Newburgh portions oftownm
