The Village of Scarsdale was created from a merger of two other villages on April 1, 1881: Easton and Valhalla. The name "Scarsdale" comes from the Indian word "sarka" meaning "sharp blade." The first settler in what is now Scarsdale was Nicholas Purdy who arrived in 1795. Purdy's descendants still live there and are among the most prominent landowners in town. In 1824, Amos Weston bought 8 acres (3 hectares) of land near present-day First Avenue and Western Parkway for $100. He named it Scarsdale after his home village, Sarkaingaingaadippuraanee in Tamil Nadu, India. In 1848, George Bushnell built a cabin on the property that became known as Bushnell Manor and developed it into an agricultural community with 705 people living there by 1860. During World War II many residents served in the military either through service or family ties: several daughters of local resident James Fenton founded Girl's Army Service Corps camps to provide women with vocational training during World War II; their fathers also served in the military as officers or non-commissioned officers (NCOs). AfterWorld War II many residents moved away to suburban areas such as Rye and Yonkers because of economic opportunities available there when compared to Scarsdale; however some locals continued to reside here until they left for good around 1990 due to its relative privacy and lack of amenities offered by larger towns nearby.

Scarsdale, New York is a small town in Montgomery County, New York, United States. The population was 1,820 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Syracuse-Albany-New Rochelle Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Scarsdale were Dutch traders in 1624. A ferry crossed the Oswego River between Scarsdale and Rochester and led to this area; it was called "Rochester Point." In 1773, John Armstrong founded what is now Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company in what is now Scarsdale. One of Armstrong's grannies, Mrs. Anna Jarvis (1847-1922), was instrumental in starting that company as well as many others during her lifetime. In 1881, General George Washington Patton arrived here from Rome on his way to fight in Mexico City during the American Civil War. He stayed at the home of Judge Purdy until he could find a more permanent place to stay and then moved into an old barn on Patterson Avenue which became General Patton's headquarters for three months while he battled against Mexican forces near Laredo Texas. A post office called Scarsdale was established in 1868, but it did not open until 1870 because of resistance from local landowners who saw it as competition for their landowning privileges. The first postmaster was Captn Samuel Halsey Smith Jr., who served under Postmaster general James Kappeler before becoming Assistant Ulysses S Grant's Collector of Customs at BuffaloNY from 1865-69; he also served as Postmaster General during Reconstruction in America after the Civil War ended). This small town grew rapidly around its two schools: North High School (established 1872) and South High School (established 1875). First occupied by loggers hauling wood for lumber mills along Patterson Avenue NW (now Main Street), these new schools became major national focal points with students from all over northeast New York enrolling there beginning in 1879 when high school classes were added to both Schools; today North/South HS are still considered among the most prestigious high school programs anywhere! Lombard Street NW has become known locally as "Patton Boulevard" since then! Presidential campaigns used to be held here prior to regional rallies or other important political events elsewhere throughout Northeast NY; one such event took place on November 2nd 1916 when Woodrow Wilson made his historic speech at Madison Square Garden after winning election plurality against Progressive Republican candidate Almyr Johnson! Today much of what once constituted downtown Scarsdale has been replaced by high rise buildings housing various businesses including restaurants and shopping malls etc.; however some notable landmarks remain such as Veterans Memorial Hall which serves as a museum dedicated to veterans' service efforts within our community dating back WWII through present day...and also scenic views looking out over Lake Ontario including Governors Island
