During World War II much industrial production took place within easy driving distance of Scarsdale thanks to its strategic location between NY 26 (the Turnpike) northward into Ontario County and NY 163 eastward into Westchester County as well as its proximity to military sites such as Loudon Army Airfield just south of town. One result was that many factories directly employed locals which helped contribute significantly to community spirit during wartime times. Today most residents are active within their communities - serving in various capacities including government, business or volunteerism - making them proud inheritors of one significant aspect of America's history: an elected officials who care about their citizens' welfare!
