The village of Scarsdale was organized in 1881 and incorporated in 1908. The townsite was surveyed by George Washington Carver in 1871 and named for Colonel John S. Carver, a United States Army officer who had been aide-de-camp to General Andrew Jackson during the Fourth of July Invasion of Mexico City. The town site was chosen because it lay on what would become the Erie Canal route south from Buffalo to New York City. The first post office at Scarsdale opened in 1872, and remained in operation until 1955. In 1908, the village of Scarsdale merged with the neighboring Town of Yonkers to form a new Village/Town Center which remains today as one of the most vibrant villages within easy driving distance of Scarsdale proper! Today’s economy revolves around manufacturing (especially paper products), office services, health care services (through its own hospital and clinics), light industrial production (manufacturing automobiles and parts) as well as some agriculture including dairying and corn farming - all within easy reach for those who enjoy good quality food options!

Scarsdale, New York is a town in Erie County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh– Allegheny– Philadelphia metropolitan area. The town was organized on November 5, 1785 by Colonel George Washington and Dr. Benjamin Rush as a land grant to David Scarsdale and others. The name comes from the Italian word "scarlatta" meaning rawhide or hide of an animal such as a deer or bear. According to one source, one early resident said that he had been given the gift of this specific term by his Indian guide who told him it meant "a place where there are no trees." Many settlers arrived during the Revolutionary War including General Forbes who founded Forbes Heights on what is now Scarsdale Township on December 12, 1784 after defeating British forces at the Battle of Saratoga in upstate New York. During its early years Scarsdale experienced several natural disasters including a devastating fire in 1814 which destroyed most of downtown and killed many people; a tornado that struck on October 25, 1868; and a school disaster on May 3-5th 1889 which left over sixty students dead when their school bus overturned near milepost 2 on US Route 20 near milepost 8
