Many famous individuals have been associated with MACOMB INSTITUTE including poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and physician Samuel Morse Sr.. After many years of growth and evolution atMACOMB INSTITUTE SARATOGA SPRINGS became one of America's most comprehensive postgraduate medical centers when it opened its doors to students in 1948! The town was named after General George Washington's headquarters on the same river during his military campaigns in North America during the late 18th century. In 1814, Saratoga Springs became capital of upstate New York following Albany's displacement as state capital by Buffalo. The town reached its peak population in the 1920s with over 20 thousand people living there; however, it has since declined and now support an estimated 7500–8000 residents.

The area was first settled by Native Americans, and it was not until 1814 that white men began trading with the Iroquois Confederacy. The town of Saratoga sprang up around this time, and its growth is documented in local archives and historical documents. In 1824, John Cushing purchased land in what is now Saratoga Springs from the Mohawk nation. This purchase marked the beginning of white settlement in what is today Saratoga Springs. In 1827, Richard Stockton founded the Republic of New York here, which served as a model for later American republics. In 1830, George Washington sold his property here to James Auld for $10,000. Auld operated a ferry service between Albany and Saratoga Springs until 1836 when he built his own mansion at 117 Prospect Street. Saratoga Springs became an important center of culture during this period; many famous people lived or worked here including Franklin D Roosevelt, Max Eastman, Alice Paul and others. By 1907, however, Saratoga had fallen behind other towns in terms of development because of World War I restrictions on military production within city limits. However, after Prohibition ended in 1933 (following passage of laws prohibiting liquor sales), business increased dramatically and by 1948 there were more than 1 million residents living in Saratog
