Red Dot Sight History in Rye, New York Rye is a town located in the Town of Clifton and County of Erie in New York. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first red dot sight history in Rye came about when a group of men from Erie County decided to start an associated business called "Red Dot Optics" on May 2, 1916. At that time, sights were provided by individuals or businesses rather than with a dedicated Red Dot Sight Shop like today's version. The business was started by George Kalogeris who also operated what is now known as Gander Mountain Outfitters here in Rye. In 1927, Red Dot Sight Shop owners Harry Ladd and Julius Heineman opened up their own shop which became known as Ladd’s optic store until it closed down in 1984. In 1951, another business called "Optic Zone" was opened up by James Jaffe with his son John Jaffe behind the counter. This store sold various optics including red dot sights but also handled other types of merchandise such as handguns and rifle stocks at that time. The store closed down in 1987 but reopened under new ownership later that year before closing again for good in 1999anchoring to other stores throughout Western New York before ceasing operations altogether around 2001 due to declining sales levels according to historical records cited by author Joe Vigliano Sr., currently proprietor of JoeVigliano Optics LLC located inside the old shop building on Main Street adjacent to Painted Pony Casino & Racetrack). In 2006, local resident Raymond Paynter opened up his own optic shop here which has continued operating ever since serving customers from all over Western New York! Supplies for this independent optic shop include red dots sights, riflesights and scope mounts along with all sorts of accessories needed for shooting sports including pistols and shotguns! Ray Paynter's optic store is one of very few remaining red dot sight shops left operating statewide today!

Rye was incorporated as a town on February 24, 1814; it gained city status on November 5, 1846. On January 1st, 1898, it merged with neighboring Ithaca into one municipality under the name "Ithaca".
