Rye, New York is a small town in upstate New York that has been settled by Dutch and English colonists for over two centuries. The town was first named " holsters" after the New England holster company, Holsters & Hangers, which was founded in 1810. Today, Rye is home to the Holster Museum and Historical Park, as well as a variety of retailers selling firearms and accessories. In 1776, during the American Revolution, Rye's British-owned storekeeper surrendered his store to American forces under the leadership of General George Washington. The Americans used the store as a barracks until they could find another location. In 1810, when Holsters & Hangers opened its doors for business in Rye, it was the first shop in America devoted exclusively to selling handguns. The shop became very successful and soon began importing weapons from Europe. In 1827 Holsters & Hangers merged with Purdy's Pistol Shop to form Purdyholsteredand shipped pistols worldwide. The Second World War interrupted this export stream but resumed shortly thereafter when America entered into an arms race with Nazi Germany (see World War II). By 1941 Purdyholstered had become one of America's leading suppliers of handguns and ammunition to the military. One reason why pistols took such precedence among other items during wartime was their vulnerability only to gunfire from short range artillery or bombers; grenades could not kill them outright. Purdyholstered also enjoyed exclusive status within handgun circles due to their mastery of manufacturing what were then considered high-quality parts: everything from slide springs and barrels to grips and triggers - all were made using hand-tooled brass construction methods that remain today unchanged by mass production techniques elsewhere on Earth. As production increased post-World War II demand outstripped available resources at Purdyholstered so they started marketing models outside Of America including importations into Canada (theHolster Museum has evidence Canadian sales began before U.S.) Additionally their products evolved eventually becoming known as Duty Pistols which offered performance levels above those offered by most competitors while still remaining affordable enough for everyday use without requiring specialized training or special equipment than what Tactical Pistols may offer today Green Field Armory continues making quality holsters at our facility since 1978

The first store opened in 1838 and by 1840 there were 11 stores and several mills located around what is now downtown Rye. By 1860 there were over 100 businesses operating in downtown Rye with a population over 4500 people. On December 12th 1863 Union General Ulysses S Grant attacked Fort Erie near present day Buffalo News Corners while supplies for Union forces retreating from Petersburg were being unloaded at this location; this was considered one of America's greatest reversals during World War II due to its strategic importance as it lay between US Army units defending Petersburg and Confederate forces advancing towards Richmond., resulting in heavy losses for both armies combined

Rye is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 7,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Rye were Dutch colonists in 1624. In 1795, George Clinton founded a small settlement on the east side of the Susquehanna River between present-day Main Street and Canandaigua Creek. The name "Rye" originated from an early settler's observation that "the banks of the river were covered with rye straw". In 1812, John DeWitt built a trading post on Beaver Island in the river and named it after his father-in-law, General James Wilkinson deWitt II (1748–1825). At this location traders could sell goods such as fur and cloth to Native Americans who had land along both sides of the river. In 1814, Wyoming Territory was created from parts of Ontario and New York counties; Rye was within that territory until its annexation by Buffalo in 1827. In 1826, construction began on a canal through downtown Buffalo to convey water from Niagara Falls to Rochester for irrigation purposes; when completed in 1830, this became known as the Erie Canal. The town residents objected strenuously to its completion because they felt their village would be destroyed by its creation; however, it slowly grew over subsequent years due to improvements made by local businesses and residents themselves. By 1860 Rye had reached its peak population with 10,000 people living in 5 blocks around Main Street and Canandaigua Creek. However, during the American Civil War (1861–1865), Rye largely abandoned all effort to remain neutral – instead joining forces with Buffalo against Confederate forces under General Robert Ewell Stuart – losing nearly half its population (10% of total) while their city neighbor lost almost one third (30% of total) of their citizens (approximately 25% black). After Union victory at Gettysburg in 1865 there was general resurrection of infrastructure throughout much eastern NY due to Reconstruction; however Rye languished until beginning of 20th century when it regained significant growth thanks largely to influxes of immigrants who helped revive agriculture which led againto large scale development starting before World War I
