The first firearms were made in Rye, New York in 1795. The town was founded by Abram DeWitt and his family on the site of a now demolished mill. The DeWitts were able to get the required permissions from the authorities to start manufacturing firearms and began selling them soon after. They continued to do so until 1825 when they moved to Utica, New York.

Rye is a small town in Upstate New York, located on the Mohawk River. The population was 1,858 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Binghamton-Schenectady-Onondaga Metropolitan Statistical Area. Rye was first called Huckleberry Hall and then Rye on the Plain. In 1807, John Jay built his home in what is now Rye and became its first Mayor. The community has been around since 1798 when two rifle clubs from Schenectady founded a post office in what is now Rye as part of their club's "Wandering Expedition." On July 24th, 1798, Tory Livingston moved to Rye with his family after establishing himself as a lawyer in Albany. His daughter Hannah married George Washington Carver who settled in nearby Clifton Park and bought land there for $50 per acre (2 hectares). In 1814, while Carver was away at war, James Fenton removed 140 acres (64 hectares) from Carver's holdings to make way for a new church and school building which he named Trinity Episcopal Church after his patron saint: St. Thomas More. In 1825, rye farmer Elias Bemis donated land to the town for public use including an arena which served as the first municipal football game played in New York State; it featured local teams from Schenectady and Utica Valley against each other that year. A number of businesses were established during this time such as The Tavern on Main Street where beer was sold by volume not by weight; it remain operational until 1957 when it closed due to Prohibition violations According to the 2000 census, there were 1,858 people living in rye village according to Social Security numbers alone - more than any other place within 50 miles of Buffalo or Syracuse; this population totaled 321% of the entire village’s size Rye also has several nonprofit organizations like PTA/DARE (Parents Association/ Drug Abuse Resistance Education), Friends of The Preservation League Gallery & Museum (FLAGM), United Way (UW), Habitat For Humanity International (HHTI) and many more that serve residents locally or contribute culturally or environmentally components to lives hereabouts

Rye is a town in York County, New York, United States. The population was 2,052 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Rye was Nicholas Jorgenson who arrived in 1785 with his family from Norway. Jorgenson and his wife Emerentia founded a small trading post on the east side of the Susquehanna River near modern-day Utica. In 1814, Jonas Sibley purchased twenty acres (8 hectares) of land adjacent to Jorgenson's post and named it Rye after himself and his father-in-law Rev. Timothy Eaton. The first settlers were farmers who raised corn, beans, potatoes, and other crops on their farms until the turn of the century when industry began to grow around Utica so rye became an important crop for local mills and factories that needed it for raw materials such as steel and rubber products. In 1837 John Davenport bought two hundred acres (120 hectares) of north central York County from Jonas Sibley for $1 million dollars which he used to build what is now known as Davenport Park on present day Main Street in Rye village; this park served as a Recreational area including tennis courts, golf courses, lakeside picnics etc., until 1955 when it was sold off to private interests and reverted back to its original name - Davenport Park - until recently when it again changed hands becoming part of the new development called "Davenport Commons" located across from Marist High Schoolsite across First Street from Ithaca College). Rye lost its status as a separate village after 1895 when all villages were merged into larger municipalities under state government control as part of plans for agricultural improvement called "The Promenade". As part of this process many buildings within the old Village nucleus were torn down or converted into housing developments while others survived but underwent changes such as additional streets being built leading away from downtown or be brought closer together making them more easily accessible by car or bus which has resulted in some residents feeling they have been abandoned while others feel they have had their privacy invaded by developers who view them only through views onto their yards or sidewalks where they cannot see anything happening within their own community.........
Rye was founded in 1614 by Roger Williams, a Puritan minister. The town was named for the rye plant, which was first grown in the area. Rye became an important center of industry and commerce during the Revolutionary War. In 1784, the town passed into state control and it has remained under New York State jurisdiction ever since.
