The Rockville Centre Business District includes most of downtown Rockville Centre as well as all but one block of Riverside Drive between First and Second avenues. The land that would become Rockville Centre was first settled by French colonists in 1614. They named it after their original home town of Rouen, France. In 1785, Governor James Wright bought 1,500 acres (0.8 km2) along what is now First Avenue and Riverside Drive from the Dutch for £10 per acre (€1). He built himself a mansion there known as Wright's Manor which he used as his gubernatorial office until he died in 1809olksupervised by his second wife Esther Hickshimself who had married him shortly before his inauguration. His widow continued to live there until her death in 1828; thereafter it passed through various families before being purchased by John Davenport Sr., an American fur trader and real estate developer who renamed it "Davenport City" in honor of his late father-in-law Abraham Davenport Jr.. Davenport City quickly became a thriving commercial center with several buildings still standing today including the original Post Office building (now known as One Liberty Plaza), Davenport Hotel, Armoury Building and many other businesses which remain central to its economy to this day. In 1865, when New York State became a United States state, Davenport City became part of Westchester County; however, because much of its commercial activity centered around Harlem – then part of Albany –Westchester County officials never fully embraced US culture and politics so much so that some residents continue to refer to their city as "Albany". The last business operator from DavenPORT CITY died in 1984 when its assets were sold to Allstate Insurance Company for $5 million dollars (). In 1988–1989 World Wrestling Entertainment held spring training at Long Island's Hofstra University during March Madness Weekend before moving permanently to Stamford Bridge stadium near London that year following complaints from students about noise levels inside Nassau Coliseum while also violating school rules prohibiting any indoor sports events without prior written consent from both schools
