Rockville Centre is a city in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 53,825 at the 2010 census. It is the sixth-largest city in New York State and the twelfth-largest city on Long Island. The Rockville Centre metropolitan area had a population of 1,971,052 as of 2018. It includes all of Rockville Centre Village (the town within Rockville Centre), Eastchester Township and portions of Yonkers and Syracuse counties. The economic engine for this area is commercial real estate development with office and industrial space accounting for most of the growth over the past few decades. Rockville Centre began as part of Utica on Long Island in 1795 when German immigrants founded what became Utica Patent Town. In 1824, John D'Angelo purchased land east of Mohawk Creek from the Indians for $4,000 cash and erected a small frame courthouse near present day Utica Park Boulevard and Anthony Avenue. In 1830 D'Angelo divided his holdings into two parcels – one comprising all or part of what would become known as central Rockville Center (now east side sidewalks between Utica Avenue/Route 9A south to west side streets) while the other parcel included much of what would become north side Rockville Center (west side sidewalks between exits 5A/5B from I‐90). By 1835 D'Angelo's widow owned about 60% share in centerrockvillette land grant company which developed property along Nassau Street towards downtown Newark until 1870 when it merged with others to form Delaware & Hudson Railroad Company whose main line ran northeasterly through central Rockville Center terminating at Bridgeport Terminal near today’s Madison Square Garden where trains stopped to pick up passengers before continuing northeast to Scranton or Buffalo

Rockville Centre is a town in Dutchess County, New York, United States. The population was 37,057 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York City metropolitan area. Rockville Centre takes its name from two large hills in the town center, one of which overlooks Rockville Creek and the other overlooks I-95. The first permanent settler in what is now Rockville Centre was Simon Gregg who arrived there on April 12, 1777 with his family and five others from Windsor, Connecticut. He named his new community after George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate near Philadelphia (now Arlington), Pennsylvania. In 1801 David Levy purchased land northeast of present-day Rockville Centre and built a cabin called "Thornhill". This became home to many of the early settlers including Emanuel Rahway who also founded Rahway Farmstead on May 5th, 1803. On July 11th, 1807 following an election by residents of Rockville Centre to choose a Board of Directors for the newly formed village of Westchester Village (later Rochelle), Rahway donated land east of today's Second Avenue to form what is nowRahway Park. The first public meeting about theVillage was held on September 3rd under the auspices of then Mayor John Fenton and Deputy Mayor Cornelius Van der Velde." In 1814 German immigrants Heinrich Lachmann and Jakob Friedrich Urbach settled near present-day Main Street while Johann Gottlieb Ziegler settled northwest of Main Street in what is now North Road; he laid out blocks that would become present day Elmhurst Avenue between Broadway and First Streets.
