However, this prosperity did not last long; by 1915 Rockville Center had shrunk to its present size with only 14 businesses and no industry other than agriculture remaining. By 1922 this had decreased to 8 businesses and 1 industry - retail trade - which was also smallpox-inflicted Clothing Store No 2 (later known as Macy's). During World War II most manufacturing took place outside the villages; however 3 factories in Rockville Centre produced war materiel such as tanks, guns or ammunition: Allied Chemical Works (now Honeywell), McKnight-Higgins Aircraft Factory No 4 (later Lockheed Martin) and Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company No 1 (later IBM). In 1945 local production ended when all three plants closed due to plant closings throughout western USA during World War II; however these facilities later reopened as parts of Other Companies Inc., now Honeywell Plc.. Thereafter rockville centre lost much industrial potential but has regained some strength through tourism since annexing Valhalla Park in late 2007
