The Rochester Firearms Museum and Historical Society has been collecting firearms and ammunition for over seventy years. As part of their collection, the museum also contains a large number of gun sling history items. The guns and ammo in the museum come from all over the United States, as well as from Europe. One of the most interesting pieces in the museum’s collection is an 1875 double-barreled shotgun called “The Gunfighters Bible”. This shotgun was used by Buffalo Bill Cody to fight against Apache Indians. During World War II there was significant activity around the plant that produced plutonium for nuclear weapons production at Hanford in nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory (now known as DOE's Oak Ridge National Laboratory). A large housing development called Rosemere was developed adjacent to Hanford just outside of town along I-87/I-390; however many residents left for fear of radiation exposure or other health concerns associated with plutonium production facilities located miles away from their homes. After World War II ended came a period where many factories closed down due to economic conditions globally while also affecting local jobs; however some local businesses have thrived over these years including H&R Block which has been headquartered in downtown Rochester since 1955 when it opened its first branch across Main Street from City Hall). On November 3rd 1872 Territorial Legislature set aside two lots adjoining Romeoville within Onondaga Township {now part of Webster City} specifically for territorial use only{!}} This act provided that all land east or southeast thereof extending one hundred rods west or east thereof } should thenceforth be considered within Oneida Township}; provided further that no part thereof should ever be taken by purchase or donation but subject always thereto apportionment by vote at proper meetings convened under said Act}.
