Gun slings have been a part of the Poughkeepsie community for over 100 years. The first gunslingers in this area were the Hudson's Bay Company's men who traveled to fur-trading expeditions in the area. When they returned, they brought back firearms with them and began shooting at game in their hunting camps. One of these hunters, George Armstrong Custer, is considered the "Father of Modern Gun Slings." The early gun slings used simple pieces of leather or cloth soaked in water or oil to keep the firearm from falling off the sling. A number of different types were developed over time including a soft piece of cloth known as a girdle that was worn around the waist while firing; a metal buckle on either side which held onto the firearm during transport; and even an old fashioned crossbow bolt holster that could be attached to a belt! In 1885, Mr. John J. Sullivan started manufacturing gun slings locally in Poughkeepsie using high quality leather straps made by his son-in-law, Lewis Hargrave. This company became world famous for making quality gun slings that are still popular today! Mr. Sullivan also manufactured harnesses and other Sporting goods for use with handguns and shotguns. His products were enjoyed by many throughout New York State and beyond! One of Mr. Sullivan's sons, John FentonSullivan Jr., took over his father's business after his death in 1948. He continued producing high quality gun slings until his retirement in 1985. In 2013, John FentonSullivan Jr.'s grandson, Kevin Sullivan took over operations at John J.�S.�Sullivan�s Sons Ltd., continuing their legacy of excellence in manufacturinggunslings!

Poughkeepsie, New York is a small town in upstate New York. The population was 21,505 at the 2000 census. It is the seat of Dutchess County and is located about 25 miles (41 kilometers) northeast of Albany. The town began as a farming community on the north bank of the Poughkeepsie River, near where it empties into Long Island Sound. The population increased rapidly due to industrial development in nearby villages such as Plattsburgh and Schenectady. Due to its strategic location at one end of what would become known as Section 9onthemarketplaceofNewYork(N/A: This section does not exist), Poughkeepziexposed itself to many natural disasters; for example, Hurricane Sandy destroyed most of its infrastructure in 2012 and 2013 (along with much else in central New York during those years). Despite this experience, Poughkeepsie has continued to grow increasingly prosperous since then—-despite some challenges posed by local real estate prices and other economic factors. However, during the 20th century Poughkeepsie experienced significant decline and reached its lowest levels of economic activity in the 1930s. In recent years, however, Poughkeepsie has begun to experience growth and is now one of the most populous cities in New York State. The city is home to several major businesses including IBM, Coca-Cola Company, Procter & Gamble Co., and Unilever NV.
In 1664, the first English settlers in what is now New York City founded a trading post on Governors Island. The colony grew rapidly, and by 1700 there were over 100 people living in Poughkeepsie. By 1812, the town had grown to over 1,000 people and was home to two churches and a school. In 1814, Poughkeepsie became part of the newly formed United States of America after the Treaty of Ghent was signed that ended the War of1812. The town continued to grow as waves of new immigrants arrived - many from Ireland - until it reached its current population size in 1853. In 1907, Poughkeepsie became an incorporated city.
