In 1977, new annexations were made to the town including Oneonta while Northport voted not to join until after more than 20 years of planning process that saw much involvement from local businesses and residents who favored joining Oneonta over their smaller neighbor due primarily to their shared maritime heritage combined with concerns about future economic development potential within Oneonta if they did not secede from Port Chester Township which they believed would have led to less access by businesses within Township limits for protection against annexation by other municipalities should Oneonta have joined forces with another municipality outside their borders; however this vote never happened because both townships agreed upon annexations during negotiations preceding unification Portchester is one of two communities bordering Onondaga Lake on Long Island City Peninsula section east side only - residential areas are adjacent along Canalside Avenue corridor from western shoreline all around lake front - mother tongue is English only
