Over time, gun manufacturing declined due to competition from other industries such as textiles and agriculture. However, it continued to be popular among small-time gunmen until at least World War II when it started to decline again due to increased regulation under Alcohol Prohibition laws. Today there are only a few independent gunmakers left in upstate New York that still produce firearms using traditional methods like hand-casting or forging brass parts with hammers rather than using CNC machines or 3D printing technology

Port Chester, New York is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 20,581 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Port Chester were the Algonquians who lived on the frontier of present-day Erie and Niagara counties before their removal by Europeans in 1664. The Dutch founded a trading post here in 1675 and named it Zeeuwenhoek after Pieter de Villebois, one of their own traders. In 1714, colonists from Ulster county arrived and began to build homes here; these settlers were followed by others from upstate New York over time. In 1776, during the American Revolution, Port Chester was headquarters of George Washington's army; it remained so until 1815 when General John Burgoyne surrendered here without battle to British forces under Lieutenant-General Henry Clinton. A new town was established east of Portchester on land donated by Adam Schuyler in 1812; this became known as Newtonville after Nathaniel Newton (1762-1835), an early settler and mayor of that community. The boundaries for both towns grew gradually until they were nearly identical in 1840 when Newtonville merged with Portchester to form what is now called simply "Port Chester." The first industries located in Port Chester were agriculture and fishing; however, since the mid 1800s industry has steadily grown into such important sectors as transportation and commerce. Today's economy depends largely on manufacturing as well as service sector businesses such as hotels and restaurants. One significant development which has occurred recently within the town limits is the construction of Trump International Golf Links which opened its doors in 2006 just outside town limits near where Trump Tower once stood
