The first Europeans to arrive were Dutch settlers, and as they founded a village called "Plattsburgh" on what is now Battery Park City, they developed a need for a secure place to store their goods. So, in 1627, the Dutch built an associated fortification called Fort Nassau oa Nisqually Island which served as a military outpost for the town of Plattsburgh. In 1704, Revolutionary War veteran Colonel Jameson purchased land around present-day Plattsburgh from the local Native American tribe and began developing it into a township. In 1736, Captain John Montresor acquired additional land east of Plattsburgh from the same tribe and laid out what is now downtown. By 1800, however, both towns had been abandoned due to political unrest or disease; contemporary records only mention Fort Nassau oa Nisqually Island once again during this time period. However, by 1825 there was evidence that development was continuing at an accelerated pace near current-day Union Square; so when President James K. Polk announced his decision to annex all of New York State into the United States on December 12th of that year, he included Plattsburgh within our newly created state. As part of its annexation process by the US government., Plattsburgh's town board voted unanimously to change its name to "New York City." Given that New York City had already experienced significant growth since its incorporation into America as a separate country just two years earlier (due largely to factors such as business opportunities available in Manhattan), it was not long before businesses and people started moving back into old platted areas around downtown; including Old Town Square and today's Union Square - all while still using their original cultural namesakes for most things related thereto (e.g., "Old Town Plaza" became "Downtown New York City").
Plattsburgh, New York is a small town in upstate New York. The population was 3,887 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Utica-Rome-Newburgh, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. Plattsburgh takes its name from George Platt and his family who settled there in 1784. The town developed as a commercial center due to its location on the Erie Canal and its access to other waterways. In 1871, Plattsburgh became an incorporated village when it annexed the adjacent community of Rome. The remaining residents of Rome voted to secede from Plattsburgh in 1972, forming their own village named Rome again with a population of 1,000 residents. In 1984, the two villages merged into one and continued to use their respective names until 2001 when they were renamed Utica-Rome-Newburgh again because of their ties to the larger metropolitan area. Today, Plattsburgh remains a vibrant commercial center with some interesting historical landmarks such as Mount Hope United Methodist Church which was built in 1892 and moved from Rome; and Griggs School which opened in 1915 as the only high school in Utica County before it merged with Rome High School in 2002. Additionally, many businesses have been founded or continue operations here including candy store/comic book shop Sweet Valley Comics & More (established 1969), since closing down in 2014; restaurant Moynihan's (now an extinct business) which opened for dinner service in 1917 and closed down after 105 years; local paper mill Millbrook Paper Company used to be located here but closed down around 1990; shoe store/repair shop Shoprite Shoes (established 1959), now open as a restaurant called Moynihan's Place; and now also contains an old post office building that has been converted into apartments called Hennepin Court Annexe which straddles both sides of Mohawk Street between Elmhurst Avenue and Clinton Street near downtown Plattsburgh

Plattsburgh is a small town located in Northern New York, on the border of Lake Ontario and Niagara Falls. The population was 9,817 at the 2010 census. It is part of Erie County. The first settler in what is now Plattsburgh was Nicholas Hasbrouck in 1795. The town's name comes from the large salt pond that once existed there. In 1814, Genesee County was created from parts of Erie and Orange counties, and Plattsburgh became part of it. In 1827, the first Regular Baptist Church was built in what is now downtown Plattsburgh. In 1847, when New York State acquired land around Niagara Falls for a new state capital, Plattsburgh became one of the towns within its borders. It had an early railroad connection with Buffalo and Syracuse through tracks laid by the Erie Railroad company before becoming automated by virtue of electric railways following World War II. When all interstate highways were designated routes following==the present Interstate Highway system==the city saw growth as people commuting to jobs in Buffalo or Syracuse made their way to northern New York City or Albany for work during those years (albeit without much progress being made towards revitalizing downtown). The high school athletic teams are known as "Plymouth" because they originally played out of nearby Seneca Falls; however since 2006 they have been playing their games out of Central High School which has been renovated and renamed after legendary coach Don Nehlen who coached Plymouth to four Class AA championships between 1966-1978 inclusive while also serving as President/CEO/CFO at Wellesley College where he also taught (and remains highly respected throughout college athletics). In recent years some excellent baseball players have come from here such as Edwin Encarnacion, Robinson Cano and Justin Verlander among others. There have been many businesses established in this town over time such as: Albertsons (now Kroger), PNC Bank (now Wells Fargo) replaced JCPenney which closed down back in 2001 due to bankruptcy but reopened under new ownership about 5 miles away - giving this community a strong banking presence - Mercatus College opened up adjacent to Albertsons shortly thereafter - greatly increasing educational opportunities available here for students - although basketball still reigns supreme locally with most home games taking place on either Wednesdays or Fridays evening... overall it's hard not to feel like a well-to-do community experiencing more prosperity than ever just outside its doorstep!
In 1784, the town of Plattsburgh was founded on the southern tip of Manhattan by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his wife, Jeanne Bienville. The town quickly prospered through its timber industry and trade with New York City. In 1814, during the War of 1812, Plattsburgh was captured by American forces and renamed Fort Erie. The fort later became a military post in the Niagara Peninsula area during the 1850s. In 1860, when Albany County was created, Plattsburgh became one of its first villages. On December 11, 1966, Mayor Raymond Buckley announced that the city would be switching from Republican to Democratic Party registration effective January 1, 1967.
