In addition to their hardware line, the Applegate brothers also produced books about firearms which remain highly sought after by collectors today. One particular artifact from the Plattsburgh Gun Barrel Company days is a muzzleloader barrel that was once used by Captain George Washington himself. This muzzleloader barrel was made from bamboo and was equipped with an iron ballpoint pen that allowed Washington to sign treaties during his time as president!
How a gun barrel is made starts with the selection of a casting material. Gun barrels are usually made from brass or bronze, but other materials can also be used including carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The choice of casting material depends on several factors such as the intended use of the barrel and the strength required for the firearm. The first step in creating a rifle or shotgun barrel is to remove any build-up that may have formed on either end of the barrel. This can be done by using a wire brush or an eyedropper to clean out any residue that has built up over time. Next, an etching agent is applied to the inside surface of the brass (or bronze) tube where it will join with the metal jacket around it. The etching agent causes two layers of metal to become etched into one another so that they can both stand up against wear and tear over time. This process is known as metallurgical refinishing and helps prevent any part of the barrel from becoming “ pitted” or scratched where it sits against other parts of the firearm. Once everything has been cleaned and etched, a gas chromatograph (GC) is used to determine which type of fuel oil companies wish to sell their products in Europe. For American firearms manufacturers this step may not be necessary as certain oils are available without GC testing in other markets such as Asia and Australasia. Once approved oils are selected, they are then added back into solution through an infusion pump before being piped down into each Brass Tube Cast Barrel at pressures greater than 760 pounds per square inch (PSI). In order for these pressures to properly disperse throughout each section of brass tube cast barrels, multiple stages must take place including cold hammering which mates different pieces together along with heat treatment before release into service

Plattsburgh, New York is a town in Upstate New York, United States. It is the seat of Schoharie County and is part of the Syracuse–Rochester, NY-7 Micropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 8,863 at the 2010 census. The first people to live in what is now Plattsburgh were Native Americans who hunted and Gathering around Two Lakes while living off their land. In 1664, Englishman Sir George Fox built a small fort on the site ofpresent-day Plattsburgh State Park to protect his fur trade interests in that area. In 1714, The Province of New York granted a charter to the Town of Plattsburgh for an agricultural society with four lots reserved for farmers and two lots set aside for townspeople. On December 1st of that year, it was decreed that "the inhabitants or freeholders thereof" should be able to vote in all elections beginning with those held for members of the township council but no later than March 1st following each General Election. On February 22nd 1810 (dated November 3rd) Isaac Stout 2d sold his interest in the Society to John Cranch which resulted in plats being laid out as follows: Northeast corner lot 5th from street; Northwest corner lot 4th from street; Southwest corner lot 3rd from street; Southeast corner lot 2nd from street ½ mile northwest of present day Post Office building; West corner lot 1st from street ¼ mile southeast of present day Post Office building." An act providing for an election on May 12th 1812 approved by both houses of Congress set forth as follows: "That there shall be an election on Monday next after Trinity Sunday next ensuing at 7 o’clock P M at said post office building where citizens are hereby requested to attend who having qualified may vote by ballot." The first intervillage meeting took place on October 20th 1814 when twelve men were present including two “freeholders” or landowners who voted without compensation and one man who acted as recorder. This event marked commencement proceedings leading up to formation of what would become Plattsburgh village circa 1815 when boundaries were adjusted relative to other towns within upstate New York so as not too closely resembled those surrounding Syracuse/Rochester

Plattsburgh is a town in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 1,830 at the 2010 census. It lies along the Mohawk River and is part of the Utica-Rome, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to settle in Plattsburgh were Frenchmen who arrived in 1624 and called it "Port Royal". English settlers arrived in 1664 and called it "Pilton", after Sir John Pilton, 3rd Baronet. In 1777, George Washington's forces attacked Fort Townshend on the riverbank south of Plattsburgh while supplies were being transported overland from Canada to General Washington's army at Valley Forge. The fort was abandoned and burned shortly afterward by British soldiers under General Howe. In 1814, during the Mexican–American War, American general Winfield Scott landed his army at Plattsburgh with orders to capture Santa Fe City (now Albuquerque). On July 4th of that year he set up a temporary military post near present-day Depot Street and Main Street for his troops to rest and cook their food before continuing their march downriver towards Mexico City. A detachment of about 100 men from Scott's force came ashore onshore where they found Native Americans constructing a stockade around what is now Battery Park City. After some initial skirmishing the Americans retreated back upstream towards Plattsburgh Landing where they erected tents for the night before turning back next morning without achieving their objective. On October 19th of that year Commodore James Ross sailed into Schenectady harbor with an armada of warships anchored off what is now Albany dockyard when he learned that Mexico had successfullyresist American forces advancing upriver towards Mexico City despite an Anglo-Spanish naval blockadeOperation Albermarle). Admiral Lord Howe decided instead to cross Lake Erie with his main body southward toward Buffalo rather than risk another engagement with American ships offshore which would likely have resulted in decisive loss for either side. Accordingly he put all his remaining warships into action against Admiral Ross' vessels - including two heavy frigates - managing only partial success as both fleets withdrew within sight of each other after suffering extensive damage (the battle finally ended when one frigate HMS Repulse ran aground on a shoal off shore). With news of Howe's deployment arriving at Plattsburgh about daybreak on October 22nd Commodore John Murray sent out boats filled with citizens and militiamen from various parts of town to assault or disable the small fortifications surrounding Fort Townshend (now known as Battery Park City) while platoons from Clinton’s Regiment patrolled nearby Prospect Heights; however this also failed because no one knew how close Fort Townshend actually was to shoreline] In early November Admiral Howe ordered Rear-Admiral Edward Vernon accompanied by three frigates commanded by Rear-Admiral Charles Hardy(Frigate)to take possessionof* *HMS Thames* *USS Constitution* *USS Constitution# “When we got there we found that they had built themselves bastions round certain points within gunshot distance not onlyof our own ship but alsoof several others belonging to different Naval Forces: We accordingly moored our Ships so as not tc be fired upon without provocation; And as soon as possible formed ourselves into Line abreastand advanced against them; but finding them too strong for us we retired again immediatelytoward our Ship [the USS Constitution] Which happening just then trowsefully astern Of us sheered away repairs her topgallant mast &c.,and made sail towards Syracuse’s Harbour” – Captain Charles Hardy describing actions taken aboard USS Constitution during Battle off Islip beach v/s HMS Thames
