When the first Europeans arrived in what is now Peekskill, they were immediately drawn to the fertile farmlands and rolling hills that flanked the harbor. They began to build their homes and businesses on land that would later become known as Greenpoint. The town's earliest settlers were farmers and hunters who blended Dutch, English, and German culture into their lives. In 1814, Peekskill was chartered as a village by Governor George Clinton. At the time of its incorporation, Peekskill had a population of just over 100 people. The town quickly became a center for trade and commerce. With access to shipyards and mills on Long Island Sound, Peekskill thrived as an economic powerhouse during the 19th century. It was also one of the most religious communities in New York State at this time. Assembling Bible societies, prayer meetings, agricultural fairs, and other religious events garnered attention from visitors from all over America. However, during the years leading up to World War I (1914-18), things started to unravel for Peekskill residents. One reason may have been related to events happening in Europe at that time: The war was bringing new technology into bear against traditional enemies like Austria-Hungary and Russia—two countries with which New York lacked any significant commercial or military ties. Additionally, many people inpurchasing weapons online felt they had no option but to fight if they wanted to protect themselves or loved ones from harm overseas; something that hadn't been done before thanks largely to regulations put in place after Pearl Harbor (1941). This atmosphere of fear led some citizens—many of whom were already gun owners—to arm themselves instead of waiting out potential dangers while others simply didn't have enough money or resources available to buy firearms outright. Regardless of why it started becoming difficult for locals living near Greenpoint dockside not only sellWeapons but also own them outright within city limits -Peekskill finally achieved full legal autonomy when it gained statehood in 1951! Guns continued being sold openly throughout much of this period until recently when NY SAFE LAW changed things again by making it illegal for anyone under 21 years old without Authorization from a parent/guardian

From the Revolutionary War through the 1960s, Peekskill was a center of gun culture in New York. Gun manufacturers and dealers on Main Street produced pistols, shotguns, rifles, ammunition and other firearms for sale to residents of the town of over 12,000. The town's small population also generated a high demand for quality firearms.
The town was first settled by Dutch colonists in 1614 and became part of Allegany County in 1777. In 1825 the area became part of Albany County and then again in 1898 when Peekskill merged with the Town of Westchester to form the current municipality.
Armed conflict between Native Americans and settlers began in earnest during Peekskill's early years. A British military officer named John Montgomery arrived in 1775 and discovered Indian activity near what is now Peekskill Creek. He ordered two companies of soldiers to attack the Indians but they were soundly defeated. In retaliation, Montgomery burned several villages and killed many people before withdrawing his forces returning home without further damage or casualties."Peekskill-A History."

Peekskill is a small town in upstate New York, located on the Mohawk River. The population was 5,671 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rochester-Albany-Chemung County, New York Metropolitan Statistical Area. Peekskill's early history can be traced back to 1714 when French traders and colonists established a trading post here. Its current form as a village began after an 1875 fire destroyed most of the original buildings in what is now the heart of Peekskill. The area that would become Peekskill was first settled by Native Americans in the late 17th century. By 1800, it had developed into a small village with about 100 residents. In 1825, English settlers arrived and built a sawmill and gristmill in what is now downtown Peekskill. The milltown moniker was applied to this area starting in 1834 when local newspapers moved from Kingston to Peekskill to market their products more effectively; but it formally became known as Peekskill in 1875 after Mayor Isaac Nevin pushed for its creation as part of his effort to promote growth within village limits following an1872 fire which destroyed much of downtown Kingston. During World War II, many Japanese Americans were interned at Camp Nelson near Albany while other Japanese residents were incarcerated elsewhere during America's wartime incarceration program; however, few examples exist of Japanese American life inside or outside of villages like Peekskill during this time period due to government secrecy policies related to war crimes investigations later known as "The Manhattan Project". However, some community members did experience Internment camps such as Ohana concentration camp just north-west of Albany where over 1,500 people died between 1942 and 1945; Ohana remains one of only two open death marches in North America still extant today (the other being Santa Fe Trail West Texas Internment camp). In 1955, construction began on Interstate 895 through town; this led to increased development around Downtown Pekskill and resulting increase in traffic congestion which often caused problems for locals living near I-895/I-90 interchange points such as Eastern State Parkway/Delaware Avenue and Route 9 southbound (now exit 24A off I-895). In response, various forms of transportation systems were proposed including expressways or roads specifically designed for high traffic volumes: these proposals ultimately never came to fruition due mainlyto budgetary constraints unique to that decade – although portions thereof are still viable today thanks to efforts by several private developers who have renovated portions of I-895 over the years including adding express lanes etc., creating new business districts along I-895 corridor) . In recent decades there has been renewed interest among locals and outsiders alike in developing aspects associated with Dutch culture such as artisans' markets (e.g., Barnes & Noble), historical restaurants (Eli Lilly Brewery) etc.; thus revealing another facet about village history – its connection not only with New Netherland but also with other parts of Europe during this time period via trade routes running through present day Canada and then on down into Mexico City etc..
