Patchogue, New York is a small town located in the Town of Patchogue on Long Island. The population was 8,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of New York County. Patchogue began as a hamlet on the north shore of Long Island in 1664 by Nicholas de la Honta and his family who had arrived there from Bohemia. They named their community after their traditional home village, Poznan (Pozniec). In 1814, when the United States acquired Florida from Spain, it included part of Long Island and became known as "The Florida Strip." In 1817, Congress passed an act to create a new county on Long Island. The first land grant was to Nicholas de la Honta for 126 acres (40 ha). He sold this parcel to Joshua Corwin in 1822. Patchogue's first store opened in 1824 and its first post office was established in 1830. By 1840, Patchogue had become one of the most important villages on Long Island with over 150 houses and 4 churches. In 1861,when Nassau County was created out of parts of several counties on Long Island, Patchogue became one of its three townships and retained its status as a small village until 1974 when it joined the larger town of Patchogue into that county. As a result of this merger, Patchogue lost some much-needed residents but gained others who commute to larger towns for jobs or pleasure; many people now call themselves "Patchogueians". Today, patches continue to be made throughout much of rural New York State by various farmers looking for good farmland at lower prices than found elsewhere - making it still littlechanged since 1753 when Englishman John Patchett settled hereabouts

He represented landowners around patchogue during its early years, helping to improve property values and make it more accessible to settlers. 3) One of Patchogue’s most famous natives is singer Cyndi Lauper (1946-2018).
