Patchogue is one of the oldest towns in New York State and began as a small village on the east coast of Long Island. By 1800, it had become an important commercial center with its own school system and courthouse. In 1851, Patchogue became a town under theVISTA program which aimed to improve rural America by creating jobs and promoting economic development. As part of this effort, the town built several large hospitals and other public buildings including a library and post office. The town's economy has since diversified with many new businesses growing up around healthcare, manufacturing, retail trade and real estate.

Patchogue, New York is a town in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 7,965 at the 2010 census. Patchogue is part of the Rochester–Buttonwood, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town has been known for its cheese and apple cider production since 1795. In 1836, the town voted to change its name to Poughkeepsie because of concerns about being confused with other towns in the area with similar names such as "Poughkeepsie" or "Newburgh". The first settler in what is now Patchogue was Abram DeWitt in 1795. On May 10th, 1796, DeWitt sold his interest in the land that now comprises Patchogue village to Captain John Smith and his wife Susannah for $1 per acre. At first there were only five families living in this area: Abram DeWitt (the owner), John Smith (the purchaser), George Washington (a Loyalist soldier who had deserted during the American Revolution), Martha Washington (John's mother), and Nathaniel Dibblee (Nathaniel's brother). By 1800 there were over 100 people living here including twenty-five farmers and seventy-five traders; by 1801 there were 328 settlers here and six churches; by 1810 there were 1,023 people here including one hundred farmers and ninety-six traders. In 1822 when New York State became a U.S. state, Patchogue voted to become one of twelve villages located within it – although it still retained its own government separate from that of neighboring Rochester – but it did not become operational until 1830 due to difficulties obtaining platting permits from Albany due to lack of community support or infrastructure developments on an equal scale as those near Rochester which had already enjoyed success with their mills etc., having absorbed many residents from Poughkeepsie while maintaining their cultural identity thereby preserving some vestige of local autonomy despite constitutional outsider status quo changes brought about by Ulysses S Grant’s presidency In 1840 when Albany annexed all but two of New York’s ten villages forming “Albany County” under new state laws – making Poughkeepsie an officially incorporated village even though it remained outside boundaries defined by county limits – Patchogue again voted not to incorporation pending further deliberations on whether or not any benefits could be derived from doing so beyond tax breaks granted by Albany rather thanゼロであることが判明した ; however because no decisions had been made about incorporating yet another largely rural hamlet into a rapidly growing city like Albany under these difficult circumstances some 500 residents elected themselves officials called Committee on Incorporation without consulting either the Village Clerk or any other representatives appointed thereto solely out of concerns they would have veto power should they decide against incorporation After several years more deliberation Committee on Incorporation finally recommended incorporation on February 12th 1845 after selling shares worth $2 each at open session held at Poughkeepzie Hall following objections raised by some trustees regarding potential business implications resulting from such rapid growth without proper planning etc., Although initially opposed by most residents request for annexation due to fears secession might follow if village became too powerful politically Albany eventually agreed granting full voting rights back onto Patchogue within two months thereafter becoming both a mayoral borough within city limits as well as member
